Why is it (especially in Celeb Land) people think its great to name your kid something horrendous, like Ferrari?
I mean take David and Victoria Beckham. Now Brooklyn I can cope with, but Romeo? Please Victoria, why are you that desperate to have your name in the press? How is the poor child going to go on at school with the ribbing his mates will give him. I know he'll be at a posh school, but kids are kids and they tell it like it is. What about when he's at home in his mansion and Victoria can't find him? How is she gonna stop herself from shouting over the intercom "Romeo? Romeo? Where for art though Romeo?" And her latest bundle of joy - Cruz (which allegedly is a traditional Spanish girls name).
Whilst out shopping recently, some mother shouted to her child "Speed get over 'ere and get in ya trolley" Speed? Is that what she was one when she conceived her?
I wish some people would just take the time to think about the implications calling your child a silly name will have. Do you think they'll be thanked later on in life when the doctor's receptionist shouts "Casanova Jones, room one please" :guitarist

I agree! How about some of the celeb baby names here recently.....Courtney Cox named her girl Coco....Gweneth Paltrow named hers Apple. My oh my! Those are just a few that come to mind now. Seems like they are competing for the most weirdest names.

i thought it was gwynnie, i think thats one of the strangest yet
coco doesnt seem quite so bad but still not 'normal' but then i think im slightly biased coz i like courtney and she struggled to have a baby, she could have called it frog and id have liked it!!
why cant they just name their kids, sarah or amy or claire?!

If my niece had been a boy, they were going to name her Kentucky Rod. I was so grateful she's a girl!

Having grown up and been the only one of my kind for 14 years I think giving a kid an unusual name is comparable to... child abuse. Not only would people screw up the pronunciation and spelling of my first, they could NEVER get my last name correct. For years I hated my parents' choice of name for me. today, my name is common enough that there is no mistakes so now I have forgiven them ahahahaha.
Kids deserve a fair chance right off the bat in life so DO NOT ruin it by giving them an idiotic name.

It may not be an unusual name that is cruel...may just be the wrong name. There is a parent at my school who named both of her sons Tim. I like the name Tim and all...but good grief! That would be confusing!

my son is named IVAR...it's swedish. when he was little he wanted to change it. but then he became a superstar. i told him. people will know you by your one name. and they do. he had it tattooed on his arm, i had to laugh, i asked him if he forgot what his name was and had to check his arm. LOL

I totally agree with you about the use of "naff" names celebrities give their offspring. I understand the Beckham`s eldest son was named Brooklyn after the place where he was allegedly conceived - lucky it wasn`t Snodgrass, Upper Dicker or Llanfair......pgogogoch then!

George Foreman, of boxing ring and grill fame, named all five of his sons after himself: George Jr., George III, George IV, George V and George VI. His daughters fared slightly better: Freeda George, Georgetta, Michi, Natalie and Leola. Says Daddy George on his Web site, "I was really close to naming all the girls George as well, but I decided that might have been overkill." You think?

My moms best friend at school was called Penny Stamp She changed it as soon as she could - she is still Penny but on husband 6. I think it is 6 anyway, it is hard to keep up.

Good Lord....where does she find the time to find so many husbands ?
My grandchidren are named as follows:
The Girls....Chelsea, Charleigh, Amber, Jade
The Boys...Kai, Jake, Lewis
My own kids...Sarah, Richard, Mark...pretty conservative really.
I do like unusual names, but not the ridiculous ones like Peaches etc. Jamie Oliver has given his kids daft names, but I can't remember what they are at the moment.

Didn't the boxer, George Foreman name ALL of his sons George too?
And didn't British horror actor Peter Cushing have a daughter called Whoopie?
There is probably a good psychological reason, as apparently, kids with "unusual" names tend to become more successful in life, but I confess to feeling sorry for a little girl I saw once. I was standing in a queue and the guy in front called out to her as she was running around
"Monserrat, Monserrat, come to Daddy , Monserrat!"
Plenty of clearing of throats and eyes wandering upwards to admire the full moon I recall

I have a friend whose name is Rainy.
My kids have normal names but the spelling is strange. My son is Zakkary (Zakk Wylde is one of my husbands favorite musicians) and my daughter is Ayden Brook. I chose her name because Ayden means fire and brook means water. I figured I'd have a even tempered daughter, and was I ever wrong.

Penn Jilliette of Penn & Teller named his daughter:
MOXIE CRIMEFIGHTER PENN
Now, isnt that something? And yes, CrimeFighter is all one word.

we had friends who named their son Bob, yep just bob no not short for Robert, and no middle name just Bob, last name Little.
So if he fills out any legal forms and has to put his surname first, he will forever be
Little Bob......
so you see names do not have to be stupid, configuration with the last names is important too.

Some friends of mine promised me that they'd call their baby Kram, which was heartwarming and I was very touched, but in the end, they had a boy
