It is the time of the year that LeatherJacks hatch. As I have fields outside my house, these pesky little blighters lay their eggs in the field and hatch into 'Crane Flys' or Daddy long Legs as kids call them.
We have a very strict 'capture and release' policy in this house, so if I'm not on FG evenings, It's due to picking them off the walls all night of the hall, throwing them out the door only to have another lot swarm in like a squadron of Spitfires that whirr menacingly around your ears. Either that or they dance just above the skirting boards.

just one or two around. Because of the fields, there are hundreds every night. The weather is still quite humid so they get through open windows and we have the door open all night so the dogs can go in and out. If I shut the door, they swarm round the outside light and then the minute I open the door, they all come swarming in.

If no-one posts on it.. it will drop out.
I have a phobia of flying stag beetles as well since they flew into my face as a small child. To this day, I go cold and freeze at the sight of one.

No because the dogs are in and out the door all the time. I have no fear of spiders, moths or anything that comes in. It's just annoying having to chase them round the skirting boards to put them back outside. :wah:

Daddy long legs are fine by me, it's the damn spiders that freak me out. It's not got quite cold enough yet for them to all start heading in.

No... I'm not in the slightest affected by spiders. I just pick them up in my hands and lobb them out the door. Mr O however is a big baby over them. Not a night goes by without him saying 'Look there's another one'. I always say 'It's not hurting you' but he says 'It's looking at me'.

With no question of doubt in my mind I strongly suggest you retract your statement as based on strictly your own personal failure to correctly identify the daddy long legs physical abilities.

Actually Fomad, you are partly correct. They can only half fly. Just above skirting boards it seems. They also have velcro on their knees.

You're lucky - they're all on their way into my house at the mo! :-3
