A blusterful day for my 3rd graders...

I arrived at school this morning feeling happy that I have a good class but also 'dragging my feet' due to heavy work load.

Well, well, well.......I forgot that we had a music program for our kidlets organized by our PTO..bless them:-4...... especially on a Friday afternoon:wah:.....

Here's a bit about Caryn Lin's program for children...She's into merging technology and the violin....

After years of experimenting with sound, Caryn puts on a live show that is truly unique. sometimes as a solo artist and sometimes with a backing band, she plays her 4, 5, and 6 string electric violins and uses a jam man to make short on-the-spot recordings of her voice, percussion instruments, and other sounds. As she plays the violin, the recorded snippets play back in a continuous loop adding layer upon layer of sound over deceptively simple melodies. the result is music that is both otherworldly and totally catchy. in recent years she has become a strong lyricist, sometimes adding her crystalline voice to the mix.

Caryn has played everywhere form lincoln center to six flags, the kimmel center to the crayola crayon factory, to the 800th anniversary of a monestary in the french alps. Her music has been featured on mtv's the real world and on 150 radio stations across the county, and she (and her music) appeared in the movie "philadelphia." she has just released her fifth studio album - "the call".

My class had to wait until the afternoon to view the program, but we could hear all of the excitement and great music during the morning. We even danced to some of the music.....couldn't resist with the toes tapping and arms flapping.....:wah::wah::wah:I taught them some disco moves:yh_rotfl They think that I'm just way too cool....;)

I just cannot explain how wonderful her program was. This woman had the ability to touch the heart of every child in my class. She danced, sang, and moved between the children to say hello to them.

I'll post a youtube of the show that she performed today, but it doesn't do her justice. I think because we don't have a stage so she can move among the children.....plus you see all of the instruments that she plays...

Excellent, Kathy. I listened as spellbound as one of your thirdgraders. You know my passionate interest in music so you won't be surprised to hear me say that I think it is vital for all kids to get this kind of experience as early as possible, and continuing exposure to music. It is one of life's special gifts - like laughter and friendship - which have the power of transforming dark moments into joy.

It is an interactive white board, hooked up to your class computer & there are amazing things that can be done.We are fortunate enough to have one in each class room.

Just google "interactive smart board" & have a look.;):-6
