How do I retract a thread?

Ya can't. Your threads live forever.:wah:

Which thread??

If posted recently you are able to go in and delete it yourself, as long as no one has responded to it.

Mustang did this for me, I tried and could,nt do it, how do you delete it, Betty?

Go back into your post using the 'edit', then 'go advanced' it takes you through it all step by step.

Retract - to disavow or take back a previous assertion? Add a post to the thread saying that on second thoughts you're entirely wrong, you apologize for the mistake and hope for forgiveness.

You can delete any post you make, so long as it's no more than a day old. You can't delete anyone else's posts. If the thread consists of nothing but the post or posts you're deleting then it will disappear. If it has posts by other people in it by the time you do your deletes then the thread will remain, minus your posts.

Click "Go Advanced" and it says

To delete this message, check the appropriate option below and then click the 'Delete this Message' button.

Delete Message

You have to type a "reason for deletion" too or it won't happen.

no, this was quite some time ago, let's give this a try.

I tried..hit advance, and saw nothing...

even deleted all of my wording.

ooh, you do have the 'go advanced' button though? and usually there you can delete the post??

You clicked Go Advanced?

Did it not then say "To delete this message, check the appropriate option below and then click the 'Delete this Message' button."?

And did you type a "reason for deletion" too, as well as selecting "Delete Message"?

I did hit the 'go advance' button and also did that before Betty.

no Spot it doesn't say that at all, just says the normal stuff.

it does say delete this post.....but that's always been there..

as said I have tried before because I put it in the wrong forum category.

so I have asked Betty to try one.

I always thought that you can't delete a thread...just your own posts within the thread...

Maybe you are right Kathy and it's my mistake. I thought if you started a thread and as long as no one had responded you could delete the post and hey presto the thread would disappear.

I may go create me a new user account just to clear this up, it's not been abandoned if I'm gone awhile.

Don't think so Betty. I tried that long ago and couldn't delete the thread...just the posts. The thread will just disappear into cyberspace unless someone retrieves it again I believe.

No, I could only see that because it wasn't on an opening post. I just tried on an opening post and I don't get the delete option either.

So, now we know. Opening posts can't be deleted by non-moderators.

Either The delete function has been removed so that all members are held accountable for what they put up(without do-over) or a programming bug has temporarily made the function go away. I think when I first signed up here, it wasn't available so it may be as simple as a programming issue which will be dealt with.



In the meantime, I encourage you to mean what you post as you apparently can't undo it as easily as you once could.:-6

We have always been able to delete our own posts.

sometimes I have to, if its in the wrong thread, yes, I do do that sometimes!:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl

Mods can delete a thread as long as no replies have been made to it, so if the OP is quick and reports the thread before someone answers them it can be dealt with.

Once someone has replied were unable to do anything about it, it becomes a topic of conversation and the property of Forum Garden.

Hi Chez! yes you can edit the title as I have done it for spelling mistakes or just wording it differently.
