What cravings did you have during a pregnancy ?

As we have just found out that Koan is expecting an addition to her family, and seems to have a craving for bananas, I was just wondering what cravings other 'mums' had during their pregnancies!

When I was carrying my son, we lived in a village and the only shop was the little village 'store/post office', so I was a bit lucky when I got a severe craving for all things lettuce, cos our little shop had some in! I bought 2 of them, washed them both thoroughly and consumed one in one go ! The second one I consumed the next day, also in one go, and on it's own ! The following week I changed my craving to peaches, and there again I was lucky because that little shop, bless it, had just got some peaches in. I bought 6, ate 2 straight away, then the rest during the rest of the day. I went back the next day and bought another 6 ! :yh_rotfl

Yes we all know that it is the body telling us when we have any deficiencies in our diet ! :D

Have any of you had a partner/husband who has had sympathy cravings ?

I remember that when my mum was expecting my sister (14 years younger than me!), my mum didn't have 'morning sickness', but my dad had 'afternoon sickness' quite frequently ! The whole family pulled his leg about that, something rotten ! :yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl

My BIL knew my sister was pregnant before she did all 3 times. He got morning sickness; she didn't. What a guy! :yh_rotfl

With my son, I craved spinach and strawberry pie. With my daughter, I craved ladylocks.

With my daughter I craved oranges and milk. I used to go through about 4 litres a day of milk and that's really weird cuz I'm lactose intolerant, normally.

Don't know that it's always from a deficiency. I'm craving chocolate a lot now and, though that seems normal for women, I very rarely eat chocolate. I've actually had chocolate go bad in my house from sitting there too long

I have always been a tea drinker, but during my pregnancy I went totally 'off' tea, and started drinking coffee. This lasted for years, till about 3 years ago when I started to prefer tea at certain times of the day ! :wah:

Don't remember any during pregnancy, though in the early stages each time I remember having a hypsersensitive sense of smell. And couldn't go near orange juice.

I did however have "literary" cravings. Massively.. First pregnancy - poetry. Second one - classical music. Third time - Mills and Boon romances. Fourth time - pop. Go figger. My son is a very serious person. He must never know he gestated to bodice rippers.... :yh_rotfl

I became partial to single malt whiskey after the third was announced, a predilection which never after departed.

The tut tutting was just to cover up her soft moanings, BB, as she dreamt of being clasped to the manly breast of that tall dark stranger - whose strong, silent, coldness, caused by some past tragic wrongs bravely borne, can be set aflame by the wholesome maidenliness of a good woman... BARF The more modern Mills and Boone /Harlequin Romances do, I understand have non virginal real women who actually get down and durrty before the wedding ring is slipped onto their capable hand.. and the element of the experienced older man initiating the little girlie into sexual fulfilment like she's never dreamt of has been kind of modified... BARF... Sorry - Koan.. um... er.. cravings during pregnancy?? Of the nice, family oriented kind....

Champagne???

Lmao! I HATED that all their books were about innocent blonde Barbie-esque air-head girlies and all their men were swarthy dark-haired rich older men. The whole Cinderella story was repeated ad nauseum! Why did they never have rich older women and toy boys? Talk about sustaining stereotypes! Rubbish like that makes people believe that that's how it should be!

How can a relationship like that even be equal. Really it's telling blonde bimbo's to get a sugar daddy. What about having a partner you can relate to and talk to?

Grrrrrrrr! That antediluvian stereotyping drives me insane! :-5:-5:-5

a) I didn't know there WAS a library forum

b) I was merely replying to a comment already made

c) It would look pretty stupid to post my comment, on its own, in a library forum, where the meaning would become totally lost and/or misunderstood

d) Is TS or are the mods becoming so pedantic that threads are no longer allowed to deviate from the OP???

If so, tell us now, so we can all just post forevermore in the Random Thoughts thread!

To be fair, Pam quoted them as a craving and then I mentioned the books 'off topic' as it were.
