Is it just me or is anyone else irritated by this clicksor advertising. Its a bit intrusive, highlighting words all over the shop and flagging up a box everytime you inadvertently hover the cursor within an inch of it

Yes, I've just noticed it and am looking for a switch, which seems not to be there. Anyone knows how to turn it off?

I've no idea why, but I'm not seeing it. I don't think I've changed any settings though I do have a couple of strap-ons.
Bog-standard linux Firefox 3.5.

If you're using Firefox you can get adblockplus which blocks the ads. I don't think IE's ad block works as well.

I was just looking in my adblock block list and I can't see where it does it, but yes that's one of the add-ons I use.
I didn't have Noscript installed, that's talked of elsewhere as a way of getting rid of the clicksor links and pop-ups.

One important thing about adblock is you have to be sure to subscribe to a server or something (I forget what its called). It works amazingly well though.

I've tried everything i can think of and can't get rid of it. It's only here on fg and it's making the site really slow. The other sites I've been on are working perfectly normal. :-5:-5

In the bottom right hand corner is an S with a red circle. Allow scripts from FG not not from the advertiser, I think. That's where you need to try things though.

When in your text box right click on the [More] link and then left click on "Noscript" at the bottom. Then click allow forumgarden.com and I believe this will enable you to use smilies without bringing back the ads.
You can also left click on the little "S" at the bottom right corner of your window and left click "Allow Foremgarden.com".
If this doesn't help let me know what is happening.

You can also right click the little "S" on the bottom right corner of your window and then left click options and then left click "notifications" and uncheck the top two boxes referencing "messages" and this will get rid of that little pesky bar! :yh_wink :yh_kiss :yh_blush :wah:

ForumGarden has inevitable costs. There's replacement hardware every three or four years, hosting cabinet space rental, registry charges and regular bandwidth provision. I suspect the site's administration team provides maintenance without charging or there would be no financial model capable of keeping the site open. A certain amount comes from those members who pay voluntary supporter subscriptions and some comes from advertising revenue. I'm quite sure the new clicksor display is a result of trying to prevent a deeper financial burden on the stockholders than they already face.

I finally had a chance to test Firefox on a Windows operating system.
With no add-ons, I can see the clicksor colours and hyperlinks.
After installing Adblock Plus, I can't. They're suppressed by default.
So, as RJ said, Adblock Plus gets rid of it. So does NoScript. Either will do. Of the two I reckon Adblock Plus is the more essential, it can permanently suppress any image on the internet if you decide you can't stand ever seeing it again. I use it a lot.

There are alternatives, like switching off Javascript. If it were me I'd have two browsers up, Chrome for the Internet in general since you like using it and Firefox for ForumGarden to get your speed back, with or without blocking the new links.
It would help if you have at least 512MB of memory, to do that. If you're on a really old machine you might just slow things down even further.

My copy of 3.5.5 dumped it and refuses to reload it for that reason.
Might be OK on the Windoze versions but certainly not under Ubuntu 9.10
