The Great San Francisco Earthquake and fire. There are still a few
survivors, one man remembers being carried downstairs by his mom but
that's it... he was 3 years old!!
There are pretty much ongoing studies as to the numbers of people who
died. Official count stands at about 700 people, but more are suspected
because there's thought that authorities "hid" great numbers of dead to
make the quake not seem so bad to outsiders, tourists who might come
to the city!!
A very recent study/map showed that the worst of the shaking was in
Santa Rosa, California, north of the city, and just a few miles up the
freeway from ME!! ACK!! Hope we don't have another while I'm here...
