SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) – Privacy advocates slammed revamped Facebook privacy controls on Thursday, saying the change masks a move to get members to expose more information online.

"These new privacy changes aren't so great for privacy," said Nicole Ozer, northern California technology and civil liberties policy director for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) rights group.

"It's great that 350 million people are being asked to think about privacy, but if what Facebook says is true about giving people more control over their information, they have a lot more work to do."

Online rights organization Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) labeled aspects of Facebook's privacy change "downright ugly."

I saw they updated it last night, but didn't see any real changes?

Interesting, Jazzy. That was my impression. We were in fact being led towards accepting less privacy than before. I still think FB is a great tool, but there ain't such a thing as a free lunch.

I was on the verge of killing my profile but I've taken the time to go through all of the options to set them back to the level of privacy I want.

I get the impression that many people will not bother and, by default, get far more exposure than they're expecting.

Try killing your profile Bryn, impossible.

Just chuck the old password back in and up comes all the info.

I have deleted my FB account, i bet if i typed my old password in the whole lot would come back, once registered you are there for good.

Okay now that's scary .....big brother at it again disguised as internet gurus' and internet entepenuers

I just have and, as you say, they still hold my data.

I am taking this further in an attempt to force them to delete it - I'll let you know how I get on.

This is very true Bryn, you have to take time and go through all of them, I think many don't realize just how many settings fb offers.
