So, I splurged and got a PlayStation3. Of course that's just the start, then you need the games and all the peripherals... like guitars, mics, drums... lol.

So many hundreds of dollars later I got home and said "screw waiting til Christmas!"

The magic is that it's not just a game system, it's also a blu ray player, karaoke machine, and second computer. Decided to wait and get the proper keyboard to use the internet on it though so I'm still writing this from the main computer. Anyway, despite the total cost of all the extra stuff and games, I can't believe I get all those functions for so damn cheap! Just a blu ray player would have cost over half the price and the whole system was cheaper than a netbook for accessing the web.

After calling me a cheater for not waiting another few days, you can call me a happy customer :-6

I play PES 2008 on me PS2, which is the only game I practically play, because I cannot afford a PS3 at the moment...

Are the graphics very good on it?

How much did you pay?

Had you thought about buying one from a "used" store because those "second hand" stores usually only buy good systems?...

EDIT* Oh by the way I'm jealous because I want the new PES 2010 and wish I had the PS3 to play it on!

Even though I can't stand PES 2008 AI controls in "fixed" mode and the Master League only allows for 16 teams to play in league seasons with the division two(Equivalent to the League Championship in England) consisting of Eredivisie teams and some French teams(I know incredibly BOGUS!) but all in all I love the PES series over the FIFA series because PES plays way more realistically on the in game play(Again, aside from the AI controls in "fixed" mode)...

I'm impressed with the graphics but I'm not a previous gamer, really so I don't have much comparison. The game system was $300 CAD then the Beatles Rock Band kit was $250(including the game, guitar, drums, and mic) but I got awesome deals so I got it for $200 and ended up with an extra mic and Guitar Hero game as well... then we needed an extra wireless controller which is $60 in a package with another game. The average game on its own is $60 if it's new and about $30 if its an older unpopular one... I didn't find any good deals at EB games at all and they didn't have all the components I needed.

... oh, yeah... and count on extra stuff like usb plugs to recharge the wireless controllers with extended cord length, lots of rechargeable batteries if you get many wireless peripherals like drums and guitars etc.

Got all the rockband and guitar hero stuff for 200, spent 750 on everything all together. I'm a miser at heart so I'm kinda reeling right now... but my kid is in heaven. :wah:

No videos! I'm absolutely awful at it right now. I'm blaming pregnancy for the lack of co-ordination. lol

I just got the 120G, the guy said it was cheaper to buy the extra hard drive space later if I need it, but didn't think I would for a long time.

I got the same stuff for my kids this Christmas, or should I say Santa did. Only I got an Xbox 360 elite.

I wasn’t sure if I should go with PS3 or Xbox, I know people with both and they all say that theirs is the best. I went with Xbox because of the deal.

In Euros:

Xbox: €259.00 with two free games

Band Hero: €170.00

I did not want the free games so they took the value of them off the band hero (€50.00), so I got it for €120.00

I can’t wait for the kids to open their gift so I can play with it… :wah:

still can't get over how expensive things are in the UK, considering CAD are only worth half as much.

The PS3 doesn't come with any games, and I think the Xbox is $100 cheaper here. We debated which was better but I decided to go with the PS3 for the extra functions. If my daughter uses it for her youtube watching and facebook chatting I'll have an effective second computer for her, and the blu ray feature more than makes up for the difference in price. I think they're both as good for gaming though.

You're waiting to open it?? :yh_rotfl

edit to add: You could justify it by wanting to make sure everything works properly before Christmas day and the stores are closed.

I bought the PS3 last month and have loaded many pics into the system for viewing on large flat screen TV. It's really super. So far I have just used the photo part of the system and play the War Game that I purchased. I also view movies both DVD Blue Ray and movies via Netflix. Like Koan, I will be purchasing a keyboard which will make internet access easier. I am still in the learning process with PS3 as to it's many features.

[QUOTE=koan;1275526]still can't get over how expensive things are in the UK, considering CAD are only worth half as much. QUOTE]

Well it is all relative, it would only be really expensive if I was buying it here with Canadian $ because the exchange rate would kill me. But I am here, buying it in €, no exchange rate required, and the price I paid was actually really good vs other stores.

Now if I was buying it in Canada, with € it would be really cheap because of the exchange rate, but we are on a different power system here (220 amp) so it stops us from getting stuff like that there and bringing it back.

It is the same reason why it is really cheap for us to go to Canada for vacations, and why it is really expensive for a Canadian to come here for vacation.
