At least Pat Robertson thinks so. Can you believe that some people would have actually voted for this guy for president.

I don't know how it is over there but, were it here, that would be his political career over never to be resurrected.

Unfortunately Bryn there are more than a few who will cross their arms, raise their head, wink and say "told you so"

I feel sorry for Pat Robertson.

I think my God would want that.

Pat Robertson never has had a political career, he's a "TELEVANGELIST" with a huge Christian following.

I think a good bi'tch slap would be appropriate here.

Indonasian tsunami was blamed on the people because they weren't religious enough . Our fires was blamed on us because we weren't religious enough. Now the earthquake is because they aren't religious enough.

Hmmmm yep I think a good slapping is in order. Maybe haiti being the first black country to gain independence from their slave masters grates at him a bit. He seems to have a lot of hatey for haiti.

Sort of maniac that gives religion a bad name.

Apart from the name they do their hating in, is there any significant difference between him and a Muslim fundamentalist?

Or any kind of extreme fundamentalist for that matter. They have all created god in their own small minded, mean, hateful image and then given their invention an agenda in keeping with their own warped, self dominated, worldview.

My family had a foster child there through an aid program for 12 years. She learned to read and write and sew. She learned about hygiene. Her village was helped through the program to get clean water. Gifts over the years included a goat, some chickens, cloth. In the time Mucianie was part of our extended family, I learnt a lot about Haiti and we did our small bit to try and make it less of what you call a "s**t hole".

I know, I have to admit that I kind of thought the same myself at one point, but despite that, it is a country and a home and in times like this we need to reserve judgment and help those who need it. Maybe it will be a better place for it after.

Found it :-

He unsuccessfully campaigned to become the Republican Party's nominee in the 1988 presidential election.[3] As a result of his seeking political office, he no longer serves in an official role for any church

My memory is not what it once was but that's how he's known here.

I suppose it would be in our best interest to rebuild the place. If we didn't, they would all try to come to the USA since none of the other countries would take them. How many would the UK or Australia take?

It seems Robertson's hate is due to his assessment that the Haitians gave themselves over to the devil long ago.

Are you agreeing with Robertson, Hoppy, and offering up proof?

As an american I would have thought you would find it inspirational-an oppressed colony that fights it's way to freedom from it's colonial master and goes on to found an independent republic and then manages to fend off the two major superpowers of the time and another once great superpower that try to invade and enslave them again and all without any help from anyone just sheer bloody mindedness- it's a heritage anyone would be proud of.

Nice way to put it, Pam. Their God is an evil God. Now, where did they get that idea?

Pat Robertson wrote: On his Christian Broadcasting Network show yesterday, Rev. Pat Robertson said that the nation of Haiti has been devastated by a large earthquake because its people "made a pact with the devil."

"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," Robertson said. "They were under the heel of the French ... and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.'"

"True story," he continued. "And the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal.' Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another."

Can you believe a grown, intelligent man would actually believe this BS? The words "destestable and despicable" come to my mind for him. Pat'd better really hope that God is truly forgiving or else God is going to be REALLY PISSED OFF at him!:yh_wait

None of your business, but I have donated.

These are human beings, probably much less twisted and hatefilled than you are. Their physical hurts are not less than yours. Their grievings for their dead loved ones are not less than yours would be. Their despair in the loss of their homes is as real as yours would be. Their need for food and clean water and medical treatment is no different from how yours would be in such a disaster. They are worthy of sympathy and respect and whatever help we can offer.

I'm sure we'd take plenty, we usually do help those in need. And that's on a very crowded small island - you've got plenty of space, give them some room and a basic shelter then encourage them to fend for themselves - they'll be quite good at that once they've dug their way out from under their collapsed homes, buried their dead, scavanged for food and water, lived with no basic sanitation and just about survived the inevitable disease that follows when living amongst rotting corpses.

Shame on you for your lack of compassion.

What am I supposed to see that I didn't see in every newscast every day since it happened? I'm not against helping them. I'm against blindly throwing tons of money at a situation unless we can be sure it gets where it'll do the most good. The liberal 'crat's president has been pretty free with money we don't have already. I wonder if the big "O" will go to Haiti and get his photo taken handing out some food boxes. It would be a great opportunity for him to score some much needed publicity.

One thing that surprised me was to see a report that some christian missionaries were among the very first to flee after the earthquake struck. You'd have thought they would stay to give as much help as they can if only helping dig out survivors with their bare hands or giving comfort to the bereaved. No doubt we will shortly be hearing about some people miraculously are found alive in the rubble.

Where I live, each year the Haitian migrant workers come to pick apples in the many orchards we have here. They are the nicest and most polite men I have had the pleasure to meet. They mind their own business and never once have caused the town any problems. I learned today from one of the largest orchard owners that many of his workers have perished and it makes me so sad :-1 Some of these workers have been picking apples here for over 10 years and I'm sure I know some that are no longer going to come here again. I will miss their smiling faces and they always would wave to me as I drove by the orchards. These are people just like you and I who deserve respect and help in their time of need.
