Hillsborough, Northern Ireland—The prime ministers of Britain and Ireland unveiled a breakthrough agreement Friday that saves Northern Ireland's Catholic-Protestant unity government.

Both sides' negotiators gathered at Hillsborough Castle near Belfast to meet Gordon Brown of Britain and Brian Cowen of Ireland, who last week launched a personal mission to prevent the collapse of power-sharing, the central achievement of Northern Ireland's 1998 peace accord.

..... The accord chiefly charts a path for creating a new Justice Department in Belfast that will take control from Britain of the province's police and courts. Britain hopes to transfer justice powers to local hands April 12 before a British general election expected the following month.

In his remarks, Pope Benedict spoke against euthanasia and sectarianism and gave vocal support to Scotland's catholic schools saying; "Faith schools are a powerful force for social cohesion"

Referring to the Reformation 450 years ago which he described as a "great rupture with Scotland’s Catholic past" the Pope stressed the need for ongoing ecumenical dialogue, to ensure that "the work of rebuilding unity among the followers of Christ is carried forward with constancy and commitment."

What utter bollocks. Having grown up with separate faith schools I can tell you all they do is encourage and perpetuate sectarianism you learn from an early age about proddies and papes and which side to take put kids together in the same school and the religion doesn't matter.
