School used student laptop webcams to spy on them at school and home Boing Boing

Children complaining that their school lap top webcam green light flashes every now and again are now to be taken seriously .



Within the last 7 hours the company that uses the on off switch for the webcam has said they have turned the automatic function off. It was said the function was for protection against stolen laptops. So why are children being photographed in their own bedrooms?

The issue came to light when the Robbins's child was disciplined for "improper behavior in his home" and the Vice Principal used a photo taken by the webcam as evidence.


What's really disturbing is that it never occurred to the school principal that maybe they were the ones doing something they shouldn't and that the parents wouldn't be upset at their child being spied on. She must have been monitoring the web cams.

I don't know about anyone else but i think that's kind of creepy . And during the news report they said be careful if someone gives you a lap top as a present?

Holy crap!!! I honestly believe this has broader implications ...what about work lap tops?

Im buying several of these as gifts.
