I went into Manchester on Saturday to apply for a national ID card, it took about 30 minutes for the interview.

It arrived today!

That's what I call service. :-6

Why would you want one? Don't you think the government has wasted enough tax money already? Both the other parties have said they will scrap them anyway. I personally think the government already is involved too much in my life. They can't even manage the systems that they have now without more being brought in...:-5

And they are already being counterfeited..

ID cards will be target for counterfeiters, police warn - ZDNet.co.uk

Bugger!

So if the tories get in they'll scrap them, that was a waste of £30!

My passport is due in March and it was £42 cheaper to get the ID card.

Shame the DVLC can't give the same service that you got :-5

If you are a clamping company you get super service getting someones address--if you are just a tax payer you wait till they deem your request worthy of their attention. True if Labour get in they will try and force this through, they are desperate for more control of the general population. Just think once we are all on a disc they can loose that as well as all the others they drop around the country. Why do we always do as we are told? If a couple of million refused to get ID cards the scheme just doesn't work, look how fast the road tax idea fell by the wayside once over a million had signed that petition on the government website.

Nobody in the UK should support this damn ID card. It is a waste of money - our money! It serves no useful purpose except as a database for personal information on every person living in the UK. Another restriction on our 'freedom'. It will not protect against terrorism or illegal immigration, because those people know ways around the 'system' to avoid detection. It's just another way of 'spying' on us. It is '1984' but just a little late!

Sorry but anybody supporting this ID card is mis-informed and misguided. You are condoning this sly move by the government. That is my opinion.
