I admit that am a fan. In real life, she may be a bit of a diva, but I think she has earned that characteristic. The characters that she has played in films are unforgettable. If you have ever seen "Sophie's Choice" and "Bridges of Madison County" , for example, you know what I mean. The last film I saw her in was "It's Complicated." A bit fluffy and too perfect...but fun. I can daydream , can't I? :wah:
I can relate to her in some ways because we are around the same age. Ms Streep and I do not have much in common personally. But, there have been scenes in her films through the years that I do relate to; poignant little moments in the life of a woman.
What do you think? Do you have an actor whom you admire...and why?

Oh I do agree with you about the talent that Meryl Streep has Along.....Her family is from Donegal, Ireland and my Dad had said that she is related to us.:-6
I loved her in all of her movies especially "Silkwood."
I also love Sally Fields....especially in Norma Rae and Steel Magnolias.

When I was a teenager, I watched Sally Fields in the Tv show Gidget...first time I was aware of her. What got to me was her crying scenes. So real.
In "Sybil" she was magnificent.

I have always been a big fan of hers, as well. She is no my list of actors whose movies I will see, just because they are in it.
I can't say I was all that impressed with her singing, in "Mama Mia" though.
She is definitely a better actor than singer.

I didn't care for her performance in "Mama Mia" either. I thought her character rather silly and immature. In fact, I just couldn't bear to watch the whole movie.
I did enjoy her in "The Devil Wears Prada" as the cool, controlling, sophisticated career woman.

I loved Meryl in "The Devil Wears Prada" Loved how she could tear down her staff with a very quiet, firm way that made you know you got a "dressing down" never had to raise her voice and man you had to shut the heck up to hear her cause her tactic of keeping her voice quiet really worked.:yh_rotfl
I am a huge Sandra Bullock fan, it's a pity she is in the limelight now in such a crummy way, but I always admired how she kept her life to herself and was not splattered all over the media... sad now though :-1

I just finished watching "Julie and Julia". Meryl was a delight as Julia Child. Her behavior so characteristic of the time. (late 1940's and the early 1950's) Made me reminder the adults I knew at the time when I was a child in the 50's.

Hi Diana,
I watched Julie and Julia the other night. Brilliant movie which I'll watch again. I loved Meryl's take on Julia. Do you know the Julie's blog site or name of her book?

I enjoyed that movie too. Amazing how the gorgeous Meryl Street could transform herself from the Devil wearing Prada to a large, hockey playing type English girl with a larger than life laugh.

I will pretty much go see anything Meryl does.
Sigourney Weaver is on that same list.
I watched all the Alien sequels simply because Weaver was in them.

Meryl Streep: I thought I was too ugly to be an actress | Story | Wonderwall
"For young men, and women, too, what makes you different or weird, that's your strength. Everyone tries to look a cookie-cutter kind of way and actually the people who look different are the ones who get picked up. I used to hate my nose. Now I don't. It's okay."
