blonde hair and blue eyes are also supposedly adaptations for northern climes with low light intensity-we have better night vision in theory. Now if the BNP were to deport all the people with brown eyes maybe we could be sure of getting rid of all non indigenous peoples. I would start with griffin himself.

People need vitamin D which they get from the sun. People who live nearer the equator have more melanin in their skin, which makes their skin darker, and which protects them from too much sun and from skin cancers (to a degree).
People who live further away from the equator see less sun every day and so have lighter skin to enable them to soak up much more vitamin D.
Dark skinned people living near the equator tend to have fuzzy hair as it sits away from the head and protects the head from the stronger rays. As its fuzzy it also allows greater air circulation to cool the head. A lot of heat is lost from the head and if their hair was a thick matt they would overheat and die.
People living further from the equator tend to have finer hair which is not fuzzy as they need to keep their heads warm in winter.
Red hair is actually thicker than other colours of hair. Each strand of red is thicker than strands of other colours. I don't know the reason for this but would surmise that celtic lands such as Scotland and Ireland tend to be very cold lands and so would assume it is thicker for added warmth and protection.
Of course, world travel means that all colours of hair and skin are seen all around the world now, but originally our hair and skin were of a certain type or pigment in order to protect us from our harsh environments.

So is blonde hair and black hair with blue eyes. There were successive migrations and invasions throughout history it's hard to distinguish genetically between germans, scandanavians and british-the vikings got everywhere, settled changed their name and then moved on they also settled in russia the white russians are their descendants which is why so many are blonde haired. Every now and then in mongolia you see a blonde-the descendant of a viking trader or a slave captured hundreds of years ago who knows. thousands of christian slaves were sold in to the middle east blondes would have fetched a premium. The normans were vikings who settled in france in what became normandy-norman is a corruption of the word for norseman. the saxons and angles also came from that part of europe and it's hard to say who is viking and who is saxon and who is celt as they are so intermingled. People were never as homogenous as their names would suggest.
