My nickname Lon (Alonzo) is virtually impossible for the average Kiwi to pronounce. It comes out as LAWN when said by a New Zealander instead of LAAN when pronounced by a Yank. I like accents and the different ways that people pronounce words. I don't understand why so many worry about trying to loose their accent when they are not living in their courntry of origin. It makes up part of the persons identity and personality, why loose it?

I don't think people really want to loose their accents but over time for people in other countries to understand what you are saying its inevitable it will become watered down.

Lon is just pronounced Lon here.
