What Household chore do you hate most?...

Post by Oscar Namechange »

Due to Mr O not being so Tickety Boo these days, I find myself having to do jobs that I have left to him before.

Last night I had the job of cleaning the dogs room. The constant rain has meant that the dogs have had to spend time In there each time they come In from the garden which Is what seems like 500 times a day.

It was disgusting what those dogs bring In.

I have to say that Mr O's tip of putting dog bedding Into an old pillow case before putting In the washing machine really does help the filters. Anyway, I hated It.

Next job was getting a brush and getting the mud out of the groves under the front door along with dead squashed snails that Puppy brings In.

Tonight I have to clean Venetian Blinds :-5:-5:-5

As a child, once my parents deemed me fit enough, I became the official window washer. I don't know enough words to describe my hatred of this chore.

Every spring I took the storm windows off and stowed them in a shed. I would drag the screens out and hose them off. Then I would hand wash each window on our two story farmhouse. Then the screens went on. Any repairs needed would be made first.

Come fall, screens came down and stowed in the shed. Storm sash brought out. Windows AND storm sash were hand washed, then put on. Sometimes I got help with the second story. A very tedious chore for a kid.

All of them if you have the money hire someone. Even if they don't do it exactly like you would it doesn't matter someone else did it, you didn't have too, eventually they will get it right. ;)

Sweeping my front porches.

The red dust blows up from the construction going on all about, and settles on my gray porches, and I am constantly trying to keep it off.

It is a job equal to the task of Sisyphus.

Oh The Dreaded Childhood chores... I can empathise with that one.

As a child I was fortunate enough to grow up In a house with beautiful open fires In each room. Winter was wonderful coming home from school to a roaring fire but It was my job to clean the grates of ashes every morning and polish the brickwork every sunday. My brothers job was to bring In the coal which he also hated.

I hate to mop. A mop just smears the dirt around, so I still scrub the floor on my hands and knees. I have a lot of rugs on the linoleum.

For childhood chores, I hated weeding the tobacco and the veggie garden, the most.

To this day, I don't much care for pulling weeds.

I'd rather mop someone else's floor than weed my own yard.

It's funny... I actually like mopping my floors :wah:

I've had all sorts of flooring In my time and I've always had dogs. After we had the Rug Doctor on hire more times than they had It, I had all my floors taken up and had black slate quarry tiles laid. Oh Bliss... With 3 dogs and a garden that at the moment resembles a quagmire, It was one of the best things I ever did.

It has to be done, but I do hate getting into the vault and counting the silver and gold bullion bars each week, particularly the silver. The residue stains my fingers and palm a bit. Secondly, I hate reprimanding and critiquing the servants re: their respective duties, but then I remember how hard it is to find good cheap labor these days.

I know how you feel Lonnie. Only this evening I asked Mr O where the coffee grinder was and he said ''He's nipped outside for a ciggerette'.

If I were to feel the need in having a K-9 as a pet I'd have to say cleaning it's feces up and I'd be ever so incrementally annoyed upon every increase of 15 lbs of it thereafter.

We get a few goats dumped on road sides here In England and one day my sister noticed one that had been abandoned on a motor way late at night. She put It In the back of her Estate car and gave It shelter for the night In her garage. She raided her vegetable rack and gave It lovely fesh fruit and veg only to find It had ate the tatty old blanket she's given It instead. That puts me off rather.

That is partly why you see most goat dishes have the meat cubed.

Souvlakian goat is excellent.

IMHO, Goat is about the best tasting domestic meat, possibly excepting lamb.

I love to cook.

I just hate to clean up the kitchen afterward.

Possum on the half-shell, Uncle Patrice calls it.

I can't say I care much for it, myself.

Though I love Uncle Patrice's Gumbo, and you never know what he put in it. (I learned never to ask.)

Ok- I love to make gumbo. Once I found some crawfish at the grocery store, and put those in it for the flavor. (best I ever made) I served it to my sister, pulling the dads out of there. She had never had gumbo- she moved north, I moved south. While she was eating it, she took the little seeds from the okra to the side, and I noticed she was making a little sad face, like she might cry. Thinking she was hating it, but wanting to be nice, I told her she didn't have to eat it if she didn't like it. She said, "Oh it's delicious, but I just can't eat crawdad eyes!!" And burst into tears. I said, "Honey, the eyes didn't boil out, those are from the okra"

She felt like she was in an Indiana Jones movie.

Cleanup is minimal. Mostly chopping and stirring. Never had it with possum, though. ish.

Sure they got Armadillos in LA. They came over from Texas.

They got them in Florida, too. The escaped from a circus train that crashed on its way to Miami.

I never heard of them being as far north as where you live, though.

That's pretty amazing.

Oh, but they ARE nocturns.

Around here, they are mostly spotted on the roadside in the morning.

Well the ones that were unsuccessful in crossing the road.

One problem they have:

One of their primary defense mechanisms is to jump straight up in the air a couple of feet, and flip around to run in the opposite direction when they hit the ground.

This tactic might work against a cat or dog, but not a Ford.

We don't have armadillos here but 'coons love the sweet corn in our gardens, rabbitts everywhere, not to mention crows and hawks. skunks root up the yard, fox get at the chickens, rats and pigeons get in the barns and now we got deer up the wazoo.

I didn't mind at all when I became old enough to take over the position of "exterminator". It involved my two favorite things, guns and shooting.

The wild foxes I feed every night still dig my garden up. The staple diet of a fox Is earth worms so that's what they dig for. The squirrels dug up my tulip bulbs and ate them and my dog digs my garden up.... just because he can.

as I said, I've only ever seen one and I think he came in off a truck from Texas!:yh_rotfl

we have thousands of raccoons, but we know enough to put a bungee cords on our garbage, I used to feed them, but not anymore as it just attracts more and they should be eating what they normally eat.

fox? oh yes, our farmers hate them as they kill their chickens.

some have chicken coops, but the fox's still get in them, but some farmers have so many chickens they are trying to raise so they roam free.
