This pic was taken last week from the deck of our cottage. The stag and doe can be seen in the foreground if you enlarge the pic.

How big do you have to enlarge it ?

Are they hiding behind the bush ?

Live deer are not venison, they are ......deer.

They are dead center, standing on the ridge. The doe is harder to spot.

A lot of restaurants in the States offer "Wild Game" and when you ask, you find that it comes from New Zealand.

I have always been puzzled by this.

Particularly for Elk. How did Elk find their way to New Zealand?

that's strange I just sent somone off today on a deer hunt. I'm expecting huge amounts in the freezer in a few days.

Oh, we we call deer and elk both 'venison' once butchered as opposed to beef,chicken lamb and fish.

I can just see the stag now you have pointed out where, I think the doe is shy.

You can make out the doe just to your right side of the stag. She is shy, just peeking up over the rise.

Enlarge the picture, and then keep clicking on th +sign that you see over the pic. The doe is sitting down to the right of the buck:-6

I don't have a plus sign, it's a x , and that closes the image down.

Suspect you call Pigs, chops on trotters, Lambs, cutlets on feet, and Cows T-bones on hooves.

Good question-------Many animals were brought here as they were not native. Deer, trout, sheep, dairy cows etc. There are no predatory animals or snakes in NZ, but plenty of possums. There were at one time thousands of species of birds, many of which are now extinct including the Moa. Trout have flourished and 5 lbs seems to be the norm.

No, they are not native. European Red Deer were imported.

Once a deer is killed it becomes venison. At one time venison applied to certain other animals besides deer.
