Same with me. I never answer the phone unless I know who it is and am in the mood to talk to 'em.

I had an interesting chat with the local Labour caller when she phoned a couple of weeks back, she set me straight on several points I'd misremembered and she was entirely right on all of them. I found it pretty helpful.

Health and Safety probably comes into it

seriously

they are technically employed, even if they are not paid and are volunteers, by the relevant political parties...........therefore the relevant party is responsible for thier safety.........so since they are in the public place, visiting houses (just like postmen or milkmen, charity workers, etc) the 'employer' must ensure safety by doing resonable risk assessments and should carry sufficent insurance to cover eventualites (which would cost big money)................comes under HASAWA 1974

just think of the dangers involved..........vicious dogs, road traffic accidents (and there legal implications if they use thier own vehicles regarding insurance) and above all violent members of the public.............its cheaper, quicker and safer to do it by phone

to be honest, if Peter Mandleson knocked on my door, id want to punch him too :yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl

We only see our mayor and freeholders knocking on our door when it's nearing election time.

The mayor, who lives down the street from me, and a few politicians showed up at my door, and I told them that the owner was out of town. The mayor didn't even know that I was his neighbor:wah:

They left some brochures for the owner to read when 'he' returns....:yh_rotfl

Tossed them in the garbage:rolleyes:
