am i right that you can only drag and drop a song from your library into a playlist if it isnt a smart playlist???

i wanted to pick individual songs out of my library but i couldnt put them in my smart playlists without adding about a hundred rules!! when i created a normal one it worked.......

That's true. Smart playlists are only collections of rules not actual playlists, if you want to add the odd song to a smart playlist create a normal playlist and use a rule to include that playlist in the smart playlist.
