I thought the new function to open and close threads beneficial. When a thread goes entirely off track or becomes Insulting, It is a useful function but.... Are we pandering to the Individual wants of needy members?

I am all for the thread starter to close a thread If they feel It warranted for the above but I have just seen a thread opened, closed because a member posted on It, then open It again to have their say, close It so another poster could not comment further, open It again so they could make one post, then close It again so another poster could not comment once again.

I believe that the rules of any forum are that once you make a thread, it becomes the property of the site owner and public property.

If we pander to such nonsence, are we giving members the Impression that they can dictate who posts on threads they have started, and close a thread simply because they do not like a particualar member posting on It? Yet these same members feel free to post on the threads of the member they are blocking on their own.

When I start a thread, I welcome all members for all their opinions... I may not agree with them but a thread Is a thread.

Surely this kind of practice should be kept to private messaging or Facebook and not opening, closing, opening, closing, opening threads to ensure that no other member posts of them?

Personally, I just don't care.

I think it's a perk for paying members, isn't it? So not everyone can close their threads? Or maybe not... can't really recall where that was left... maybe you should try closing this one and see if it works.:sneaky::wah:

Seriously though, the only closed threads I found looked pretty damned boring to me and I'm just grateful they are gone. I wish more folks would keep that kind of crap off the boards.

Even If I became a supporting member again, I would not close a thread just to ensure another member did not post on It and then re-open It just so I could... I find It all extremely pathetic... After all... This Is a debate forum not a members private message board.

Yep, you're right Floppy. That option is a perk for supporting members. It was something members brought to Tombstone's attention that they would like to have the power over and he delivered.

It reminds me of another useful function here at FG... Private Messaging so we do not have to write threads when we want to attract another members attention.

I've been pondering this question and still don't know how I feel about the members ability to close/open their threads.

At least the threads can't be deleted.

On one hand, I appreciate the fact that a member can close their thread when the thread is about silly arguing between members.

On the other hand, I feel that we should be able to hash out our problems at times as long as things don't go verbally violent.

I totally agree Kathy and why I would not personally close a thread... To close a thread because another member has come on It, then open It to post your-self, then close It Immediately after, smacks of not recognising that this Is a public debate forum with other members than them-selves.

Why on earth post a thread In the first Instance If you do not want others coming on to It?

That Is what private messaging Is for... Not a board to hold one sided conversation between you and another member exclusive to all others..

I agree Oscar. I did ask once to delete my thread as I realized that I put way too much personal info on the thread. Another thread I asked for it to be closed as it upset someone, and I thought it best to close it.

But, I've decided not to change my threads and think before I post or just deal with the aftermath:wah:

You are sooooo funny Betty & Oscar. I just made about 10 spelling mistakes in my last post. I'm so anal that I had to correct each one and made more mistakes:wah:

I did recently post a thread entitled... 'Nomad, Stop It Now...' I posted It rather than private message because I actually did want members to know what he was doing to me. :yh_rotfl

Honestly, I think its a great feature for supporting members who feel the need or desire to close or delete a thread whether its run it course, been interrupted rudely or however they feel when its needed.

Tombstone gave us acceptionally awesome new features to use.:-6

It is good to have a certain amount of control over your own thread. That said, we know that any kind of power can be misused.

Most threads close of their own accord, however.

You only very recently posted on BB's thread 'Forum participation' that the forum was a place to debate so how can any-one debate when threads are closed and then re-opened just so you can make one post and then close It again?

Also.. You say 'rudely Interupted'... For one... Do we not all 'rudely Interupt' a members thread when-ever we post? What Is the point of a thread If It is not be Interupted? That is a chat room with one on one not a forum with other members.

You did not open, close, open, close, open and close your thread because It had run It's course... you closed It because you objected to some-one other than yourself posting on It. The thread had certainly not run It's course as the member It was directed at had not even replied to you as you Intended from the out-set.

When you you your-self were told you were not welcome on a members room, you reported to the post stating that It was wrong because you had the right to post where you liked. Now, you shut threads because a member you did not want posted on It... You are actually totally contradicting your-self here. If you had a member on Ignore then you would not be able to see their post making It no need to close a thread for fear they post on It.

I agree that TS has Introduced some great new options but I am just wondering If we have the same TS here...as It does not sound like the TS you wrote about on 24 hour forums.
