What are the Chances?....

Our landline and broad-band Is with BT but went with an offer SKY were doing In with the TV service. It meant we kept our Broad-Band with BT and payed them for the rental on our Land-Line but paid SKY for the calls we make.
At the exact day and time the switch over was due, our Land-Line went dead.
BT are telling us now that It is due to a fault out-side. Yet, we had all the power lines up-dated outside our home 10 years ago and have never never had a fault.
I am very cynical. I actually think they cut us off deliberately because we switched to SKY.
I have tried explaining to a half Interested voice on the end of BT that given my husbands health, they have left him without a Land-Line to contact Hospital, Doctors, nurse etc etc. All I got was that they would make a note of It.
They said yesterday It could take up to 3 days to re-connect us and I find this totally Un-acceptable.
What are the chances of us being cut off at the exact day and time of the switch over, being an out-side fault?
