Question about FG Profiles

Apparently not everyone that posts on a somewhat regular basis choose to put any personal information on their Profiles. With some it's hard to know if they are male or female, their country and other non threatening info that would help greatly in communicating. What are your thoughts on this?

Must admit I quite like that uncertainty. It's a challenge to one's preconceptions.

I think it's healthy to know who the community here is, at least the largely regular ones. It's interesting to get to know them on some sort of level, even if it's superficial. Some I have met personally. It's certainly important to know whether they are male or female. It can save a lot of embarrassment, even though I was mistaken a few times for female. Tsk...surely not ! I like people to be open about who they are.

I'd hate to think I was being groomed. :wah:

When I first joined FG... I had Spot down as a gardening type woman and Fuzzy as a beer swilling geezer so It Is can be confusing.

However, I do believe we should have a little on our profiles especially on FG which because many members talk on the phone and meet In the real world, trolls and spammers can be spotted relatively easy by the refusal to post any profile details.

There was a time here many months ago when 2 trolls showed up and despite them sticking around trolling threads, It was obvious to all, who they were and what they were here for by not giving one detail of their profile.

If members are genuine then what Is there to fear? I am not suggesting we put real name and address but a genuine member will post a little about them-selves.

Having said that, Mrs Hypocrite Is on another forum with no profile details and finds the come on from female members rather amusing and entertaining. :sneaky:

After reading your profile, I'm still not sure.

binbag: chuckle. If I remember right, I was very cautious when I first came on here and haven't looked at my profile since. However, I'm not trying to hide anything. (checks quickly) Yep. Still male.

I've never looked at that crap unless someone raised a question about it. I have a friend who's been accused of being everything except a ten speed bike, as far as I can recall. I remember assuring them that I hadn't cared what they were in the first place, so I probably wouldn't start caring at that late date.

Profiles are meaningless. I just checked mine and see that I am male and that that is all I am. Guess it's time to quit buying batteries and simply play with the toys I'm supposed to have...

Lon is obviously a nickname but the info on my profile is accurate. Why did I put as much info in my profile? Because I have reached an age where I really have nothing to hide or be ashamed of---------------and----------------I just don't give a shi-. I respond to posts pretty much based on looking at someones profile. If there is little or no info I give less than a serious reply. I can't be serious with someone I don't know.

I totally agree Lonnie..... As I said earlier, I do not expect chapter and verse, just where they are posting from.

Any-one who leaves their profile completely blank has more often than not, some-thing to hide or they are there to troll.

I don't think it matters, there are very few posters whose profile I have actually looked at. to paraphrase clodhopper it means you don't have any preconceptions as to race, creed, colour or sex so you judge by what people have to say. I'm not interested in gossip, Some people are just plain nosey, nor will I put personal information on an open forum. I'm not on facebook or any other social networking sites either so maybe I'm just a funny bugger.

Your not a funny bugger, I despise gossip and have had enough to fill a sh** load of garbage bins.

I don' t think I've looked at many profiles, just a few to see where they are from, as it is nice to see which country they are from and learn about their country by asking them.

Facebook is not a social bufferfly network, its a place to enjoy others comments, read what goes on with friends/family, their good and bad times and just goof around. There is no gossip going on there with my friends/family ...its just not something were there for. Others yes, but you have complete control of who you decide your real friends are.

all in all its nice to know if ones are male or female & where they are from.

Sometimes a poster tries to keep anonymous for personal reasons, and has no ulterior motives.

Myself, I like it here. I enjoy how respectful and considerate it is. I understand that I don't post often, but that is purely out of self preservation.

I have checked a profile or 2, just to get a bead on who they might be on top of theirs posts. There are some very interesting people here!

It's a rather pristine board, and it's managed quite well and the members are top notch as well.
