69 Years ago I was sitting in a stadium with my father and cousin watching a football game, Paterson, New Jersey. The kickoff was at 1 PM EST/ 7AM Hawaii. My cousin was a Chief Petty Officer stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and had been running escort duty on supply ships taking material to Murmansk, Russia. They announced on the intercom at the stadium that the Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbor and for all military to report to their respective stations. It was 1946 when I next saw my cousin after he had been transferred to the Pacific and survived the Battle of the Coral Sea, and then been on a ship that was torpedoed and was in the sea for two days before being picked up. He retired as Full Commander and went on to work for McDonal Douglas in Southern California where he again retired. My cousin just passed on this year and I was wishing that I had hung onto the Cub Scout Uniform that he had bought for me in Iceland. I was the only kid in the troop with a full uniform.
