good evening and welcome again to grumpy towers where lady grumpy is busy showering our ofspring for school tommorow.

so its time once again for another dose of castor oil grumpy pass the spoon.

A DRIVER who flashed his headlights at oncoming motorists to warn them of a police speed trap has been left with a £440 bill

Michael Thompson thought it was his "civic duty" to warn other drivers of the mobile speed cameras ahead. The vigorously-pursued prosecution was branded "ridiculous" and "a complete waste of taxpayers' money" by lawyers.

He claimed that, after he challenged the officers, one of them told him: "I was going to let you off with a caution but I'm not now." He branded the officer "a Rambo character" and claimed he was acting like "Judge Dredd" in using the law against him unnecessarily.

i,m also guilty of doing the same thing if i notice a speed trap i also flash my lights and put my thumb down.

this isnt about road safety its revenue earning for the police and another example of the police state we live in.

i say good for you pal i wouldnt even pay the fine i would allow it to go to court or to appeal.

either way i,d fight it unless some anonomous benefactor actually pays the fine but then the system has won hasnt it.

this is a shot in the foot for respect for the police and a major embarassment i have said it before and i,ll say it again the motorist is an easy target and a cash cow for the police and its time for it to stop.

I have no sympathy for him whatsoever. Let's face it if you are going so fast you don't notice a flourescent yellow van at the side of the road in time to slow you probably wouldn't notice a pedestrian either. Before you ask yes I have been done for speeding. You never know, perhaps the policeman that charged him spent the day before scraping bits off the road after an accident.

Some time ago I was talking about this sort of thing to a couple of police officers. They said they wouldn't mind if drivers were warned about a manned speed trap. That is what a speed trap is supposed to do, cause people to slow down, and they said it hardly mattered how that was achieved ! If a driver is flashed a warning of speed cameras ahead of him, and he slows down to within the speed limit on that particular road, that is the job done ! When the police act like they did in the report, then it is proof that these so-called speed 'traps' are mere cash cows That is all we need to know. I will now cheer when I see a roadside speed camera put out of action.

By the way, how did those police officers know that the driver flashed on-coming vehicles to warn them of the speed trap??

Did they have other officers posted along the route ???? Perhaps he was spotted by a patrol car, which was hard lines, as there must have been dozens of other drivers who flashed the oncoming traffic before and after he 'committed his crime'.

Good luck to him. I hope nobody gets deterred from performing this service to their fellow drivers.

You also don't know where the camera was sited, in a 30 mile limit for instance would you still have sympathy for him? When you've committed an offence bad mouthing a police officer is just asking for it. Still don't have any sympathy for him. Personally I'd like to see more traffic cars doing people on mobile phones and tailgating.

I was paraphrasing a comment made to me by a traffic policeman. If you don't notice a policeman in a fluorescent yellow jacket pointing a camera at you in time to slow down so you don't get done you are quite simply not paying enough attention.
