How often do you get an email that is just flat-out BS? How often do you check on the stories you receive to be sure they are BS before you send them along to people? I have recently been getting flooded with stories about everything under the sun, from killer spiders to how to get a hold of a police officer if you are afraid to pull over when getting stopped by someone you aren't sure IS a cop. 99% of the mail I've gotten is total crap. And how did I find out? By checking snopes, and/or www.breakthechain.org.

Are you one of those people that receives the mail, reads the story, believes it implicitly, and forwards it to everyone in your address book? Do me a favor: If I am on your list, check the story out before you send it to me. Please.

And for further discussion: Why do you think it is that people believe what they are reading based solely on the fact that it was on the web? Why do so many folks think, "If it's on the web, it MUST be gospel"?

And last: Why do we believe the sites that DISprove certain stories and not the original story itself?? Quite a conundrum! Thoughts?

I very seldom forward e mail unless it is a really funny joke. Other than that, I don't forward it. If I don't know the person, or think it is spam, I delete it unopened.

I use four different email addresses for four different reasons and all of them receive Junk Mail, the most prevelent being for Motgages or Refinancing. Second is how to increase the length and girth of my male member. Third, how I can be more virile and please my woman. Friends?forward me jokes and news articles that that think I will enjoy. I hardly, if ever, forward anything to anyone.

I'm the complete opposite...... take everything with a grain of salt.

I can't believe there are people out there who take the internet so seriously. I mean I know it's true, they're out there but eek! how moronic could they be??? :wah:

If I had to guess why they believe what they are reading on the internet is true based solely on the fact that it's on the web it would be because they haven't mastered the power of critical thought.

i received that cop email too, and informed the sender it was bollocks...stuff like that can endanger someone who is naive enough to believe it. :( ....to dispell that email let me say you have the right to signal the officer you will pull over in an area that you feel is safe. and if you do have a mobile, simply call the local police and tell them what you are doing and confirm the validity of the car following you. there ARE people out there impersonating police, it's ok to be cautious. the REAL cop will understand.

I forward really funny jokes, but tend to take the `sob stories` with a massive pinch of salt.
