This is Bristol | Sex clubs reapply for licences

As residents try to stop lap dancing clubs, what are your feelings on this?

I happen to have no objection to them.

No, not in my neighborhood. I think they pull in an unsavory crowd.

Ditto "Not in my neighborhood" most here are in small strip malls out of neighborhoods. I guess that is OK as they won't go away regardless of what people say.

First of all, as the title of my link suggests, they are licensed, or they need licensing, there-fore they are regulated.

The sites of the 4 clubs Is In the city centre and In the main, In area's where there are shops not domestic homes.

If a license was being sought In a residential street I would have reservations but In a street of commercial properties, I can not see the harm.

There are already massage palours etc In the area and lap dancing clubs do not go hand In hand with prostitution.

I say,let em have at it. If it isn't in a club and somewhat regulated it will be in the back alley.

The proposed sites are not very far from a road Infamous for prostitution.

The "Gentleman's Club" directly opposite our office was closed down recently, not for having prostitution on the premises but for inviting punters in need of a prostitute to take a ride in their stretch limo. The blacked out windows and well damped suspension were a Godsend for the occupantsdown. They reopened within two weeks of being closed - just as soon as the bung cleared into the councillors' accounts.

The other "Gentleman's Club" fifty yards round the corner has the "ladies" sitting out front under a large screen TV sowing selected views of the interior.

The "Gentleman's Venue" on the main road is the seediest dive you would ever want to not meet and the less said about the strip joint on the main road the other side of the office the better.

All this in a mixed residential / office area of no more than a quarter mile radius.

I'll give it a miss thanks.

Holy cow! You're definitely in the thick of it. The clubs around here are generally spread out and on the edges of town. Sounds like you work in the red light district in Bangkok.

No, the red light district is up round Kings Cross, this is a quiet residential borough on the edge of the City.

isn't it lovely ...somehow when you put 'licensed' and 'regulated' in front of a horrible industry it makes it sound oh so much better to abuse and reduce women, young men and children to sex objects.

Regulation as opposed to Pimps getting young girls In their clutches, addicted to drugs and carrying out vile acts to feed their ensuing habits? Rape, Beatings and sexually transmitted diseases In unregulated back of the alley affairs?

Your sex clubs are just shop fronts to all of these things you've just mentioned. did yoiu know you can get a service in England where you can hire (well the 'object' doesn't actually come out alive) a child or older person, usually a child, where you get to mutilate their genitals.....it's a fetish thing. Guess where the contacts are for this very deed/entertainment?

Yes, but I'd prefer she did neither.

Does a culture that says "sex clubs are acceptable, we licence them" encourage the follow on that street walkers are OK, they're just the girls from the sex clubs moonlighting.

Think about it.

At least Inside the clubs, the girls are regulated by age etc. If a customer goes to a regulated club, It may stop him kerb crawling thus reducing the need for girls to advertise themselves on the street corner putting themselves In potential danger.

If the regulated club sticks to the regulations and does not provide "extras" then it is more likely to encourage him to kerb crawl thereby increasing the number of street walkers in potential danger.

Can anyone tell me what a 'Sex Club' offers it's customers ?

A fish and chip shop sells fish and chips.

So a 'Sex Shop' sells sex ?

It's a brothel, why call it anything else ?

I reckon they rely on addiction no less than the street purveyors of opiates. I'd not legally prevent any adult from dancing on a client's lap but I'd not license an establishment for consumption on the premises.

Apparently the Idea Is that the young ladies perform a dance and then If they want 'extra's, the can go to a private room.

I worked up in the City, briefly. One of the older staff decided he liked me and so took me to a nude dancing joint. He really thought he was doing me a favour. It was horrible. It was sleazy. It was full of people who would have been vastly improved by the application of napalm.

If I believed that "proper" sex clubs protected girls I'd be in favour. But the people who run this sort of place are not nice people at all and will simply take advantage. The girls will be as much slaves as they are now, and more easily exploited. The clients, too, are people to avoid.

That's the only time I've ever been inside one of these places. I wouldn't know how to rate it. But it was full of businessmen in smart suits looking rich. Does that make it 3rd rate?

It's not what I based my opinion on, but it certainly helped confirm it.

I have no objection to women making money out of men's sex drives, but I object to slavery, which is what it seems a good deal of this is. Perhaps I would be less worried if these places were owned and run by women. But I've never heard of any that are. (In this country).
