I spy a spider! Britain facing eight-legged autumn invasion | Mail Online

Typical of the Mail to go totally over-board with titles such as Spider Invasion but I really don't care.

My husband hates them and on spotting one, has to have It removed from the house asap.

Me, I don't care. In fact I quite like them In that eight legged scuttling type kind of way.

This Is the time of year that they will try to get into your home so the pregnant females can lay their eggs In your nooks and crannies In the warm.

There was one above my husbands PC one night and he Insisted I removed It. I told him that the spider wasn't hurting him but he Insisted It was looking at him so had to go.

Getting the broom out one evening, one ran out from the bristles. He was only a little fella so I picked him up In my hand to send him on his cheery way outside the house. When I opened the door, It was torrential rain and the path had flooded so i worried he'd drown. It was cold as well so i popped him In the Airing cupboard. He made the odd appearance over the winter and I called him Trevor. As far as I know he's still there but don't tell my husband.

I've found two since I came in from work, both about six inches in diameter (including legs). I used the mug and paper trick with the first and the pledge fluffy duster thing with the second (bit worrying as he was getting very close to my arm as I took him outside.)

One night my husband came home from work and stretched behind the sofa for the switch for a table lamp. He told me It was best If I didn't look behind the sofa and I said It was OK because I had already seen It. When I had come home half an hour prior, It had been hoofing across the lounge floor. I went out and got the mug and the piece of cardboard only to have to go back to the kitchen to get a pint glass. Even when I tried shaking It out the lounge window, It clung to the side of the glass Insisting on a parachute.

That had to be the biggest I have ever seen In this country.

When they are that big, It's usually the pregnant female.

My husband also loathes Daddy Long Legs and I like them In that hovering just above the skirting board type kind of way. I pick them up to throw them out the door only for another lot to zoom In like a Spitfire formation.

Oh no! I don't really want to think about this but... this morning I was racing round trying to get ready to go out the door. Jowan was being a little bit tetchy and didn't take his normal cat nap straight after breakfast. I grabbed him off the sofa and took him upstairs with me, as I walked through my living room I thought there was something feeling a bit squidgy on my bare foot. No time to stop and look I was tutting that something must have been spilt on the floor somewhere and I'd not noticed. Imagine my horror when I got in this evening to realise that the squidgy thing under foot was a spider ! Euuuuuggghhhh

Nope too busy readying our property for the snake mating season ......aggressive little buggers they are ....shovel is ready at the door.

My husband has just reminded me of how very Ill his mother was after being bitten by a 'Brown Spider; In California In 1992.

It was a tiny bite of the ankle which ended up looking like she had been shot.

Brown Recluse Spider a dangerous spider can kill you ..!!

I hate spiders if I see one they are dead for sure. Yes they are coming in my house now and bitting me. I hate Spiders bites they seem to bite me around the eye areas so they must be walking across my face at night YIKES...!!!. I actually do a Spider search before going to bed some nights I check all the corners, doors, under mats just incase nasty little bugger got in. Our worst Spider here is the "Black Widow".

let off an insect bomb in your home and you won't get them .

Good idea Fuzzy will pick one up on my way home.. !! hope I don't blowup the house.

I let one off one day and there was a big huntsman on the wall . I gave him half an hour to remove himself ...he refused .....and he suffered the consequences. Well I WAS fair . lol lol

By the way a couple of drops of Lemon oil or citrus oil on a broom covered with pantyhose swept over the outside of windows keeps them away for up to three months ...can be done inside as well and it also gives the place a nice lemon scented smell. it works I've tried it.

My Mother In Law was very Ill and Yes, It was a Brown Recluse. She was treated very quickly In California when It happened and the hospital would not let her fly home for a week. Even when she landed back In London, she was taken straight to Hospital because her age didn't help.

They're everywhere, hate it!! Big buggers keep appearing on the backs of doors, on curtains and when they run along my laminate flooring I can hear them :wah:

Well I'm not putting my spider on my hand pic up again because it freaks Wendy out .

I'll take some pics of snakes this season though . Just don't tell her .
