Are people becoming noisier ?

Is It just me or have people become noisier?
Is It lack of manners?
I live next door to a Primary School and have done for years so the noise of the children Is second nature. In fact It Is a joy to hear them In the playground when our windows are open.
Since the school diversified Into a community school with out of school activities, It means parents are collecting children 8 hours a day.
It Is not the noise of children outside my windows that I object to but the sheer volume of the parents shouting and calling to each other often littered with the F word. Worse screaming and shouting at their children.
They don't shut car doors, they have to slam them.
I have to spend a few hours a day working from home and Mr O has to take to his bed of an afternoon to re-charge.
It has got so bad that I now have to shut all the windows and doors just so he can enjoy some peace.
I wouldn't dream of yelling like this outside some-one's house and I try to be a good neighbour myself keeping my dogs quiet and restricting my music to sociable hours when I am home.
It just seems that common curtesy for other people has gone amiss somewhere.

Oh, tell me about it...some people seem to have to shout at the top of their voices, and if two of these people are together, they make everyone else's life around them a misery. It must be my age but it drives me crazy.

Oh good, It's not just me then :wah:
It Is the utter selfishness that gets me also.
One after, a parent In a 4x4 parked right outside my gate. This meant that not only would I have not been able to get my car out If needed but I couldn't even get out of the gate.
Worse, she left the engine running and walked Into the school.
When she came back some 20 minutes later I went out to have a word with her and I could not have been nicer.
First I pointed out that she had blocked me In my home. It was a private road and did she not see the sign saying ' Access required, residents only, no parking'.
Then I very nicely told her that my husband had a lung condition and by leaving her engine running she had filled my home with exhaust fumes.
All I got In that Essex tart type way was .. 'Whatever' !!
So I dropped the nice part and Informed her that as It was a private road, the road traffic act did not apply and If she ever did It again, she would never get her car out again.

I can remember when children would walk to school, or catch a bus/train if distance was a problem.

Last term, we could not even get Into the Close because parent cars were gridlocked from the school gates right down the Close Into the next road. It took approx 15 minutes just to get as far as the school gates and when we got nearer, we saw the problem was a 4x4 with a parent who could not drive, park or reverse. The entire gridlock situation was down to her as she faffed about trying to reverse out. Nothing could get past her and when we finally did pass her, It was woman who lived In the next road !!!

It could be because you're getting old .... I'm begining to get more irritated with noise these days .
and I'll never understand why people need a 4x4 in the city .

From what I've seen here in the States, there is some lack of consideration for others. Many folks are not concerned about how their behavior effects others, especially concerning sounds and noises. Another example; stay in a motel room sometime, and be awakened from a sound sleep at 11:30 pm by vehicle doors and room doors slamming shut. Loud conversations, loud laughter. Ugh!

oh I hate that AFTR, I've been doing this sabatical thing recently ...once a month I take myself off to a motel room ...(same one everytime same room etc.) and you'd think the way this place is set up you wouldn't here anything outside ...but then you get the footy teams on their end of season jaunt.....so annoying.

Yes, I agree with you all, for I am an old curmudgeon! :wah:
What really gets me are the loud "thumper" car stereos. Hey, I like my music too, and I have a good stereo in my car. But I never feel the need to share it with the entire subdivision! :yh_frustr

Oh god yes ..the dooph dooph music . I fixed my son up one day. I got into my car and as soon as it started I was overcome by the dooph dooph music he had on loud speaker. I thought my ears were going to blow. ..........So i dicided that since my only reason to be in the car was to pick him up I devulged a cunning plan .
I showed up at his mates place (they were all standing outside) with the music playing loud and me wearing sunglasses nodding my head to the dooph dooph . Funny you know, that CD has never been played in my car since lol lol lol lol

I have to say that the older I get, the louder people seem to me too! We just recently moved out to the country in March and I absolutely LOVE hearing nothing but the cows and chickens outside my front door! I can't see another house for the fields and trees and LOVE it because it means there isn't a noisy neighbor which sometimes is also the "nosey" neighbor! --which I don't miss either from previous places of residence.
I remember when I was a kid/teenage years and we would go to a resturaunt and my mom would say "Oh great the screaming child is here too" --I used to wonder why she would care??? Guess what ---The screaming child is all around me now and I am MY MOTHER!! LOL

oh my god that is so true!!! we live in similar areas ....I can play my music up loud at home. But nobody can here you scream out here.
i never had a screaming child at a restaraunt ...you know why? ...it's called a 'nap time' ...could women please continue with this wonderful past time. I hear kids in supermarkets and you know, we know, that you know, that we understand teething etc. ..but for gods sake train your toddler for naps. Or just don't take them or take them when they are happy . And you can train them to do shopping, a happy child learns well . had my boys trained to put apples in the bag at the age of three. you know why ? cuase they were alert and happy
