I hope people of America are sorry they elected this man as a president as much as he is sorry for being a representative of our Great Country.

Nobody sees the lie in the article referenced?
Here's a somewhat more informative and unbiased account of the leaked cable: Obama Hiroshima trip discouraged in '09: Wikileaks cable | The Japan Times Online
Japan's then Vice Foreign Minister Mitoji Yabunaka merely pointed out that it was impossible that President Obama could apologize for the bombing if he visited Hiroshima. There's not the slightest hint that the President had any intention to, or wanted to, or had raised the possibility. Merely that it couldn't happen. "He underscored, however, that both governments must temper the public's expectations on such issues, as the idea of President Obama visiting Hiroshima to apologize for the atomic bombing during World War II is a 'non-starter'," said the cable.
And what does the article referenced by the OP, not to mention the hundreds of other crowing Republican Internet outlets, turn it into? President Obama wanted to go to Hiroshima in order to apologize for dropping the bomb but was prevented from doing so by the Japanese.
Isn't this more a comment on the willingness of win-at-all-costs Republicans to spin news into lies when it comes to smearing their opponents? I don't see that the hypothetical apology in the leaked cable had anything to do with President Obama in the slightest, it was simply recognition that no US President could make such an apology regardless of world opinion as to whether or not one of them ought to.
Maybe Wendy and Lars and Lon would all like to comment on what I've written here rather than let it drift by unrecognised.

Making apologies was all the rage for a while.
Thee were a whole string of them.
And the press was coming up with all sorts of things people ought to apologize for.
The Brits were suppose to apologize for occupying India, and Germany was apologizing for the War to end all wars, and for Hitler, and Japan was to apologize to China for Nanking, and Then the talk got going about the US apologizing for the Bomb.
US was going to apologize to Africa for the slave era.
I think the past is the past, and I am NOT going to apologize for all the crap that my ancestors did.
****.We'll be apologizing for wiping out the Neanderthals pretty soon.
My objection has nothing to do with the politics of Obama.
If Obama wants to apologize on the behalf of the US, he might want to start with the women and children of Afghanistan and Iraq.
Then maybe the people who were screwed by the bank "bail-out"
.

Yes but how can the US apologize to the US for having screwed them out of an education and health care and the resultant psychosis?
If the US were to apologize to the US then who should it be? The current president that didn't have an inch to do with the current situation or shall he/she apologize on behalf of the voters that failed to elect him prior to the horrid situation the voters themselves placed upon none other than themselves.
There we have it. The current president apologizing to the public from the public for the public. How wonderful!
