It's that time of year again when every dog In the vicinity of my home strikes up a unified range of barking and howling for hours on end.

The cause of this Is that remotely approaching Nov 5th, some-one somewhere has to let fireworks off and are not particularly choosy where they do It such as In the street.

Some teenagers also think that this time of year Is a green card to thrown lighted fireworks at passing cars and It's all a huge laugh. Our under-funded and under-manned plod are then wasting their time fielding calls from Irate home owners who are still suffering at midnight.

If previous years are anything to go by, this will now continue until February when sales start to dwindle In the shops.

You'd love it here fireworks are illegal.

The sale of fireworks here over the counter leads to misery and mayhem simply because they fall Into the wrong hands and are In the main misused. As far as I am concerned, they are a bloody menace. Aside of scaring animals and wildlife witless, they keep children awake at night and frighten elderly people. Our police then end up running around dealing with noise nusience when they should be doing something better.

They banned them here because kids kept blowing themselves up. We do ahve organised fireworks though. (that no one can afford to hire of course)

I believe you have to be 18 to buy and carry fireworks In public here and you must not let them off after 11 pm.

The problem with these laws are they are un-policable. Try telling plod to send a squad car out at 11.30 pm because some scroat Is letting fireworks off In the street. It doesn't happen because they know that by the time they get there, they have scarpered.
