I mentioned this in a thread earlier. The package is a World Viewer at
http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/
Two points, to start with. It's got some issues with some graphics cards. If yours isn't recent and commonplace, you might be disappointed.
The second is that if you don't read the mouse controls, it's a bewildering place:
left-click and drag, shift the centre of the view
right-click and drag, tilt
wheel, zoom in and out
I also note that you can exaggerate the vertical scale and that this helps for initial views in a lot of places, though not Tibet.

This is a great resource and link! Thanks Spot!

Any chance of being able to download any other NASA stuff? I`m particularly interested in guiding space rockets, etc. Thanks. (wink!) Shame about Tibet too - a country which was taken over by its neighbours but NOT recaptured by the coalition forces.......

a belated thanks to spot for the link to this program. i read this a while back, but only in the last week or so did i get around to downloading it and trying it.
what an extraordinary program. i've always loved maps, aerial photography (and by extension satellite photography), so using this thing is just a pure delight.
just for grins, here's a worldwind URL of san francisco airport - and a plane caught mid-takeoff!
worldwind://goto/world=Earth&lat=37.62133&lon=-122.37153&alt=501&dir=-7.3
(use the USGS Urban Area Ortho for this particular location)

My gratitude to NASA, for the astonishing decision to release the program with no constraint, and to the Terraserver providers. The combination is one great educational resource. My only previous access to Terraserver data was through the packages at
http://www.jdmcox.com/ (which still have terrific options), but World Wind is stunning.

NASA dollars hard at work. How did we ever get by without the ability to do this?
