Michael Jackson's doctor has been sentenced to a maximum four years in jail for the singer's involuntary manslaughter and was labelled "dangerous" by the judge.

Conrad Murray sat emotionless with his hands crossed as Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor criticised him for a "horrific violation of trust" in caring for the US pop superstar.

The judge said Murray "abandoned his patient", "repeatedly lied and attempted to cover up his transgressions", has "absolutely no sense of remorse" and "remains dangerous".

He described Murray as "so reckless", a "disgrace to the medical profession" and believed he was "a danger to the community".

As he was led away from the Los Angeles court, the physician blew kisses at a woman who shouted "we love you" to the convicted killer.

Prosecutors pushed for a full four-year jail term as they argued his treatment of Jackson with a powerful anaesthetic ended his life and left his three children without a father.

Deputy District Attorney David Walgren claimed Murray should not be given any leniency in the sentencing.

Members of the Jackson family, including his mother Katherine and several siblings, were in court to hear the doctor's fate.

Murray, 58, was denied probation, despite a request from his lawyers who said it was more appropriate given his lack of a criminal history and the fact he will lose his medical licence.

Defence attorney Ed Chernoff said he believed Murray should be asked to work in the community rather than being placed in a jail cell.

"He can do things for the community on probation. Things that he could never do sitting in that room," Mr Chernoff said.

The "Thriller" singer died of a drug overdose in June 2009, principally from the use of the surgical anaesthetic propofol as a sleeping aid.

That drug had been obtained and administered to Jackson by Murray at the singer's rented home.

Murray had agreed to care for Jackson ahead of the singer's planned comeback concerts in London, and had negotiated a salary of $150,000 (£96,000) per month to care for him.

The judge called Murray's actions "money for medicine madness that is simply not acceptable to me".

He added: "Dr Murray created a set of circumstances and became involved in a cycle of horrible medicine.

"The practice of propofol for medicine madness, which violated his sworn obligation, for money, fame prestige and whatever else may have occurred."

Murray was ordered to pay some court fees, and another hearing was set for prosecution claims that he may owe more than $100m (£64m) in compensation to Jackson's family.

Earlier this month, a jury convicted Murray of involuntary manslaughter, or gross negligence, in his treatment of Jackson.

Witnesses testified propofol should not be administered at home and, even if it is, it must be given only with the proper life-monitoring equipment on hand. It was not.

the multi millionaire family are still going to try and make an obcene amount of money from jackos passing yet they,ve got as much chance as getting it as jacko has of returning from the grave.

i for one wont mourn jackos passing we all know what jacko was although he bought his way out of trouble twice and i cannot publicly write it as he was aquitted in a sham trial despite statements from the staff of his ranch and the defendants yet he paid those two children that he alegedly molested a million dollars each.

he escaped justice because no judge was ever going to jail the superstar.

Throughout ALL allegations at Michael Jackson Including Jordy Chandler, there was no evidence, no proof. You forget here that Jackson was tried by Jury.

M. Jackson was a flawed genius but never a child molester. If he was, a Jury would have convicted him and his children would have been removed from his custody. He certainly would never have been allowed to keep his children If there was one shred of evidence.... I suggest you do some research on the subject and not the gutter press hacked tabloids on which you thrive.

you dont seriously think they would find evidence against mj do you remember it was lost how very convient who had their palm greased there remember he was parodied in that film with adam sandler although i cannot remember its name the martian one.

not a flawed genius but a very rich and influential alleged child molestor who believed himself to be above the law.

as i said jackson was never seriously going to be convicted he knew too many people in high places but justice had to be seen to be done and mj could afford clever top lawyers

what if was me or you we would have been locked up by now .

its a case of one law for the rich and one for the poor money talks in american justice .

unlike british justice over there you can buy yourself out of trouble if you have the means.

Ummm oscar ......wittness statments in court for one . Or are all witnesses to be called liars?

Who cares? With all that is going on in the world I fail to understand why so much mainstream media time is taken up showing live feeds from the trial - maybe a summation at the end of the day - It's interesting perhaps but it's hardly something that is going to affect our lives. In America you have police going in mob handed to remove protesters in a way that would get headlines all across the world if it was in china or russia to show how oppressive their regime was but no Michael Jackson takes priority. The European economy looks as if it is going down the toilet and those who caused it are getting away with it but does that get the same intense discussion? No of course not give the plebs their circuses.

While you are at it why not rant about the church and the way it protected paedophile priests or shirt lifters as you perhaps prefer to call them, how ironic they want to preserve us from the horrors of same sex marriage and deplore the decline of family life in modern society but maybe you agree and want to go out and beat the **** put of everybody your tiny little mind disapproves of and bring them back in to the fold.

If you think money can't buy your way out out of justice in the UK try watching the leveson inquiry the murdoch empire has been getting away with making a mockery of our justice system and ruining people's lives because they know no one had enough money to take them to court. Do you think any of the Murdochs or their editors will end up in jail over this? The poor criminal goes to jail and comes out destitute the rich one goes to jail and comes out and writes a book about it and has probably kept all his money. We have a proceeds of crime act have you seen anyone who committed fraud losing their assets? Fred the shred destroyed evidence to cover up his crimes and the board of directors did nothing to stop him. Why aren't they in prison? The harm the bankers have done to this country and ordinary people far exceeds anything an honest criminal can do. But they're rich and powerful, 'twas ever so. Tony Blair lied to parliament - we know that beyond doubt now, never mind god will judge him, maybe he will but so should we, too bad he's rich and powerful isn't it.
