Super PACs and negative campaigning

I'm kind of glad they got this Super PAC thing legalized. Negative campaigns have transformed the voting process into a depressing, meaningless event. Voters started to demand that politicians talk about issues instead of attacking each other personally. Result: Super PACs were formed to run hate campaigns so that the politicians didn't have to actually say that stuff themselves and there is almost nothing else being discussed except the personal flaws of each candidate.
So now you get to vote for one of two or three racist, tax evading hypocrites. Yay!! What is the effect on public morale when we know that our only options for the highest public office, representing our entire culture, has to be an asswipe and we just get to choose which ass it's going to be?
How many people are thinking there are actually good, moral, wise individuals who exist in every neighbourhood and would make a better president or prime minister?
Too bad we can't use the write in space on the ballots to nominate Joe Smith from the end of the street.
