I received this last night via an e-mail. Now personally I don’t give a flying ceramic duck on a 1950s living-room wall who wrote it, because I am sure that the vast majority of Americans feel exactly the same way as this guy.

And what’s more, I am willing to bet that this goes for most of Western Europe as well, especially Great Britain!

In my opinion that's the problem with the human concept of giving. There is always an expectation that the recipient of the gift should be forever grateful. This says more about control on the part of the giver than the beautiful act of giving, which benefits both the giver and the recipient.

I've never been a fan of emails that start off "I'm all American! Even though they are trying to rewrite the history to remove Mexico and Native Americans from state history taught in the schools, they can't erase all of the existing history books.

Your history is just a bit off.

Texas WAS part of Mexico, it never chose to be, and when the white folks moved in, they decided they didn't want to be. After they got free of Mexico, they tried it on their own for a while, but most of those white folks really wanted to be a part of the US.

Now they seem to want to run off all the Mexicans, and injuns, and secede from the union so they can be just plain Texas.

I know a lot of people who would agree with every word in this. I can relate to some of it.......I am white, I do own a gun......several in fact.....and I believe in God. I believe it is freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. Just because others may not have any religion that doesn't mean I should have to stifle mine, or be ridiculed for it. I have ancestors who were here before this was a country, they fought in the Revolution and in the Civil War. But I disagree with the idea that we shouldn't be able to fly the flag of our ancestors countries. I have a pin.....one of those that you wear on your lapel or something.......it has an American flag and a Scottish flag, side by side, I don't think anyone would have the right to tell me I can't wear it.

It seems that Christians can be ridiculed and jokes made about our religion, and things said that if they were said about any other religion people would have a fit. It seems if someone is really serious about their religion they are thought to be some sort of kook. It should be the same for everybody, even if you don't agree with their religion, it should still be respected and not made fun of.

Being a Baptist myself, I don't quite know how to answer that.

Oh and as for keeping up with the times, our bibical teaching don't change, and although the world has changed, it is our teachings that we are not supposed to change from what we have been taught is right and wrong.

I think it is great--shows spiritual maturity NOT to take offense. It shows strength in belief & strength of what you are. Look at societies that have no sense of humor, like any Muslim society. Yes, I think it's great to laugh, not be offended at humor. Let's lighten up. So they laugh, does that take away the truth of what you feel? Of what you know? Of course not.

Where I draw the line and fight back is when bible-literalist Christians evangelize at me, demanding that I conform to their interpretation of Christianity. The sole defense open to me is to ridicule their power-crazed delusions and mock their insane pretension.
