ForumGarden is moving to its fallback server in an attempt to stabilize the system's performance. We've had two outages over the last week and two failed backups, so we're taking action before matters get any worse. At the same time we're removing the ModSecurity "Internal Server Error" which has bedeviled the site recently.

I would hope to complete the server transfer in a six hour window. The work involves closing the old system, redirecting the nameservers to the new location, copying the database and bringing the new system online.

This wouldn't have happened if Anastrophe was still the admin.

And what is "this", Snooze? The server move? The length of the downtime? The provision of advance notice to the membership?

Last week (or whenever the problems began), a few hours before I was here & my Kaspersky kept popping up with "DANGER", + some message. It happened a few times & I left FG & the messages stopped. Do you think this is connected somehow to the troubles?

Webservers are capable of serving injected malware. I've had no indication until now that the FG server has been compromised in that way, and I'd have thought that if it were so then many members' virus checkers would have flagged the infection. Perhaps anyone else with a similar experience will be so good as to mention it in this thread.

I'll do a deal with you. If you can persuade him to come back, he can replace me as admin and I'll step aside to be a supporting member. How's that.

Unlikely. We were being hammered by a search engine from Finland that took all the resources that were available to us.

That should not flag danger to an anti-virus - just give time outs and connection failures.

It is possible, I haven't seen any problem though, could anybody with the same trouble let us know.

A perfect example of the old adage - no battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy.

The practice run a couple of weeks ago went without a hitch. This time it fought with tooth and claw from the moment we started until we surrendered and backed all the changes out - even then it tried to prevent us reactivating the existing service.

Lessons have been learnt, next time will be different (I hope).

I think your chum just called it bang to rights, to be honest. I should have called quits a good twelve hours earlier instead of thinking I could force things.
