As some of you know, my 15 year old dog Scully died a few days ago.
I had her from an 8 week old pup and a year later also at 8 weeks old, we got Scully her Mulder who's now 14 years old.
We didn't acquire Rosie until 3 years ago so Mulder and Scully have grown up together and done everything together.
Since Scully died a few days ago, Mulder has just not been himself. He has no Interest In going for a walk or food. Rosie Is trying very hard to engage him In play which despite his age, he has always accomodated her even just for a short while to keep the peace.
They have their own little room with 3 baskets In It and when Scully died, I didn't have the heart to get rid of her basket or fleeces just yet. Mulder now spends all his time In Scully's basket, something he never did, always wanting to sleep In his own basket.
I have known dogs to pine but I feel so bad for him and just don't know what to do for the best right now...

ahhh poor puppy.:yh_hugs
we got a cat last summer from the local rescue and she and brandy lived to terrorize each other. For the past week, every time we head into the kitchen she goes and sits staring at the garage door- waiting for me to let brandy in.

That sounds familiar.... Mulder spends a lot of time looking out the door as though he thinks she's going to be coming In from the garden. He sits by the gate as well just looking down the lane. I feel so sad for him.
How are you bearing up ?

My dog is a service dog who goes with me everywhere. A few times I fostered dogs for a local rescue organization to train them in some basic skills, since they learn faster when they can see the desired behavior in a dog that is already trained.
The dogs would be here for a few weeks and then leave. Each time, Jackson would mope and pine when each left. I found that giving him something to do helped him adjust to the loss, so I would go a few more places than usual and pick some that would challenge him, to help take his mind off of the loss.

It's kinda similar to human grief process. The first time of doing anything we did with her is hard. Gina dreamed she was still alive one night and although I washed her food and water bowl they went back to her spot on the floor.

I appreciate your post as It Is very good advice...
I'll try to find things he's unfamiliar with to engage him. He's been a real so and so today. Moody, grumpy and growling at our cat which he's never done before.

Maybe she's responsible for his buddy disappearing :sneaky:
Seriously, he's at odds with the world and likely to be grumpy with everyone.
