The sight of the headquarters of the Bankia Building has been on our TV screens all the time lately.

It is an amazingly impressive design.

But......does such an expensive cutting edge building reflect what is wrong with the world of banking in general.............or is it just me ?

What is wrong with the banking world in general is idiotic right wing economic theories that removed the regulation and controls over banking put there to prevent irresponsible lending and control their activities and now that the privately owned banks have failed miserably they are being bailed out by taxpayers who are also being sold the notion it is all somehow their fault. Guess who is advising governments on what should be done - that's right the very same bankers that caused the crisis. The private institutions that lent to the Greeks should be allowed to suffer the consequences - maybe if they had known they would carry the cost they might have thought twice about lending in the first place. The Spanish banks created their own property bubble - let them go bust it would have cost the taxpayer nothing if they hadn't been daft enough to privatise them. Banking is a service industry not a primary one.

I knew you were going to say that..............................but what about The Bankia Building ?

It looks like a rich man's folly, someone with far too much money and not enough sense.

Agree, spending money for the sake of showing off rather than for the good of the company.

I wonder how much the building cost as opposed to a simple straight up version ?
