Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well. To what do you owe the extreme pleasure of this surprising visit?

My name's John Harris and I'm ForumGarden's administrator. I post administrative posts as FG.

Various people over the last few weeks have felt it would be inappropriate for the admin account, FG, to post on any matters other than ForumGarden administration. I'm content to cooperate with that. I've opened a plain user account with one of my offsite avatars and usernames, it has no permissions beyond those of any other subscribing member and it can be included on any member's Ignore list without unduly upsetting me.

Some people laughed to see the alteration in him, but he let them laugh, and little heeded them; for he was wise enough to know that nothing ever happened on this globe, for good, at which some people did not have their fill of laughter in the outset; and knowing that such as these would be blind anyway, he thought it quite as well that they should wrinkle up their eyes in grins, as have the malady in less attractive forms.

A Christmas Carol (1843) by Charles Dickens.

Tyr! I like you so much better than that annoyingly stodgy FG. Welcome to Forum Garden.

FG has been, I fear, somewhat constipated by history. Týr by contrast will perform as a much-needed laxative.

The avatar definitely gives a more accurate depiction of who folks are dealing with. Should save you some troubles down the road.

I think you'll find we're mostly a friendly lot, as long as you don't say that word.

Tyr is the Asgardian god of war. Tyr was renowned throughout Asgard as being the only god brave enough to place his hand in the mouth of the wolf-god Fenris during the latter's binding which Fenris would not allow unless a god placed his hand in his mouth; his left hand is missing as a result, having been bitten off by Fenris, and is now usually covered by a metal cup. He has fought in the defense of Asgard numerous times. He has several times rebelled against Odin due to his love of battle and fought Thor due to resentment of Thor's relationship with Sif and the fact Thor usurped his role as Asgard's greatest warrior. Once he was nearly exiled for this, but Thor pled for mercy.

I've always seen Týr as maintaining Justice as opposed to simply blood-letting, it was the Roman chroniclers who claimed the parallel with Ares which ended up as the Christian interpretation. The later Sagas brought Odin to the forefront and spoke more of Loki but perhaps back when it all started Týr was the chap to watch out for. I commend that final notion to the board.

I just see a scary hand. Perhaps we can come up with a version that has a flower in it for special occasions.

What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,

Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part

Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!

What's in a name? that which we call a rose

By any other name would smell as sweet.............

Well that thread just bored me to bloody tears. Except for the comment about wearing a metal cup . that's gotta be uncomfortable during Cricket season.
