It took a second to figure out what it was. They hardly ever show that angle. Very cool.

I've heard of the Headless horseman, first I've seen of the headless bird.

It looks so much like a fish with the wings at the side. Very bizarre.

I assumed she was wanting to see if people could figure out what it is. Happy no one has said it yet. It actually took me a bit to work out whereas if a link is given the mystery is spoiled.

I didn't say what it was because I thought it was obvious. I'm kind of surprised people are having problems identifying it.

It looks like a fish. Birds usually have visible wings.

I found it posted by Richard Pattee but not sure if he's the photographer

Shouldn't be a big deal, as the pic resides on Photobucket and we are looking at it via a direct link.
IF you had it on your gallery and linked to that, here, then you would probably be expected to provide source info.
It seems that the rules are a bit fuzzy, but actually, it is rather simple. If you link to an existing published doc, it's OK.
If you are quoting a published doc or posting a published pic, you need to cite source references. Just as if you are publishing a book.

I've never worried about pictures because the rule against hotlinking prevents people from inserting pictures directly from other sites unless the site is designed for linking. So that forces people to download and then upload to our site. If someone asks it makes sense to try and find out who took it. Meanwhile, I'm not under the impression that anyone is being misled to think the photo was taken by the member posting it.

Let me clarify that. Thanks for fcking up a nice thread and thanks for fcking up one of the few things I enjoy doing here. If I sound angry, it's because I am. I saw a cool photo I wanted to share and this sht happens.

Let me clarify, someone brought it up because of recent events and I thought it was a lighthearted joke. At the same time, ignoring questions like that have led to trouble.

Wow, sorry.
Chill out a bit.
It was a nice pic, for sure.
I know it took me a minute to figure out what I was looking at, too.
Of course being the kinda person I am, I get hung up in trying to figure out what kind of owl it is.
I think it is a Barn Owl, but not sure.
You gotta expect a little content drift around this place, by now.

My thoughts parallel these two posts. Typing is even easier to control than speaking is. There's no requirement to post every thought that enters your head. Let's practice that by not responding to this particular post, eh?

I think Snooze is the type (she can correct me if I'm wrong) to put
at least a small brag up if she had in fact taken the pic, and where.
It's been my experience that photographers who want to make sure
things aren't used somewhere else, put a water mark on it.
A few times I've asked (if I can determine who has taken a photo) if
I can share it and I've NEVER been turned down.
My vote is to keep having her show us photos!

It looks to me like a very cool pic of an owl in flight, caught with it's wings close to it's body. I'm not being clever, it was just obvious to me what it was.
Lets enjoy it for what it is and encourage the posting of more of the same

As for copyright, It's a little futile with photographs that have been put on facebook and shared by hundreds of people. I first saw this pic on facebook. If I share a pic on facebook of a famous racehorse, I do always credit the source because the grooms and jockeys who first posted the pic have taken It themselves and they are my facebook friends but this pic has been mass copied. Snooze just wanted to share something awesome.

You actually see that flight pattern In Owls round here about one second before they hit your windscreen at 30 mph.

When I first saw it I thought it was a glass pendant shaped like an owl in flight - it took some time to realise it was a real life photo'
