I'm just off to do the weekly shop and I know that despite promising myself I won't fall for It ever again, I'll end up buying a load of old crap that no-one wants or likes.

You know those things that only appear In stores once a year In multi packs to convince you that you're getting a bargain.

Orange and Lemon slices.... WTF !!!! :-2

Twiglets

Cheeselets

Monkey serum filled chocolates

Turkish Delight

Cashew nuts coated In chilli

After Eight Mints

Advocaat

The list goes on....

I will buy them... I know I'll buy them.... they know I'll buy them and then I know by 1st January, I'll all be In the bin.

And Figs

Who In their right mind buys Figs?

Then there's the mulled wine no-one likes.

The family size tin of Quality Street that ends up with all the hard centre's lying In the bottom of the tin for weeks.

Chocolate covered Brazil nuts.

Oh and the custom Poinsetta that you promised yourself last year you'd never buy again because 60 seconds after getting home with It, the leaves are all over your lounge floor.

I bought some old fashioned ribbon candy today and a Christmas cactus (Fushia Pink) earlier this week.

Our christmas cactus is in full bloom. We get a really good set of blooms every winter. Sits atop of the fridge all year, unloved, then come the winter BOOM ! Big flash of pink

That and our orchids are the two successes as far as indoor plants are concerned.

Your Christmas cactus must love its spot on the fridge! Mine is still tiny with just a few stems but it does have 2 good size flowers on it and the promise of more to come. There was a little piece of rogue clover growing out of the soil also and it's thriving as well. I wish I could say the same for the red poinsettia but many of its leaves are, I'm afraid as Oscar stated, laying on the floor. I'm hoping the cactus will shame it into straightening up its act!

Sorry........................I like Fruit cake and Figs.

There is fruit cake and there is fruit cake, nice fat sultanas and crunchy nuts, and a thick layer of marzipan.........I'm drooling.

Try throwing your 'dried' figs into a little hot water to rehydrate, let them cool, if you wish and then serve with custard.

Pour rum on the fruitcake, let it sit for a few days and voila! Much better fruitcake.

I love dates. I like those chocolate orange things too but I never see them unless I go into certain stores and I'm lazy.

What the hell is monkey serum? I'm afraid to google it.

ETA: chocolate covered raisins are wonderful. How could you not like those?

Oh ribbon candy, THAT takes me back a good ways!!

My Christmas cactus is huge and old, it still does bloom but not

really on schedule. It's outside though, that's probably part of the problem,

but I have nowhere to put it in the house, all of my available spots are

taken up with other things!

Invariably someone would give me a "Book" of Lifesavers at Christmas time ... I loved them!
