There's much I don't care for at Christmas.

The queues In shops, the over-priced tat on the shelves and people who think donning a santa hat makes them quirky...

But there's so much I love.... Christmas eve mass, watching the kids open their gifts, The King George Stakes on Boxing day, Morcombe and Wise re-runs on the TV, being able to quaff an entire bottle of Irish creme with no guilt, Christmas pudding, pulling crackers, seeing my family etc etc

I used to love Christmas, then as I got edumakaded I would get angry thinking about all the compromises to principle the Catholic Church made in order to expand. Now I try to keep in mind that Christmas has become a secular holiday, no more holy than Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It's a time for families & friends to express their love for one another, and for everybody to act like kids for a day or two .... or a month, depending on the person.

One of my beefs about Christmas In this age is that we have lost sight of what Christmas Is about and It's become a merchandisers dream.

When all the houses and stores have all their decorations up, my husband and I make a point of noticing how many are displaying nativity scenes or Images of Christ.

I am not a religious person but I do believe Christ walked this earth as a mortal and was an extraordinary mortal that prayed for peace on earth.

It's a sad fact that all you hear from some children today Is what they are getting as gifts.

"I sometimes think we expect too much of Christmas Day. We try to crowd into it the long arrears of kindliness and humanity of the whole year. As for me, I like to take my Christmas a little at a time, all through the year. And thus I drift along into the holidays - let them overtake me unexpectedly - waking up some fine morning and suddenly saying to myself: "Why, this is Christmas Day!" ~David Grayson

My thoughts as well.

I want socks. I have lots of socks but no matching pairs due to the wife doing the laundry.

Then you need to buy matching pairs. A dozen identical socks make pairing easier.

I'm happy the wife does the laundry. I could care less if my socks match or not.

After reading this, I feel glad not to be alone in this sentiment!

"About 45 percent of Americans would prefer to skip Christmas altogether this December, according to a recent survey conducted by Think Finance, a loan provider."

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Except for the turkey, I'd skip this too! After celebrating these holidays for decades & decades etc. maybe I'm just weary. Semper eadem. Sigh.
