This made me think of Koans freedom thread, when I read the following story and how this young girl was brought to the UK after it is thought her parents were killed in a civil war... What hope she must have had for a very short while.

Girl tortured 'for being a witch'(BBC Link)

An eight-year-old girl was tortured and about to be killed after being accused of being a witch, the Old Bailey heard.

The court was told the Angolan girl was put in a bag and was to be thrown into a river before the attack was stopped.

People do weird things and get weird ideas. There is tragedy in the papers all the time telling similar tales from all over the world. That little girl is lucky to be alive and hopefully the government coming to her defense will help her to grow up knowing that what was done to her was wrong. Breaking free from her past will be a challenge that, hopefully, she can overcome.

Yes, apparently `being a witch ` was still on British statute until as comparatively recently as 1944. Poor kid.
