Well, I know it is in my case.
What do you think?
"We help people when big things happen to them, when you see them getting hit by a car, when a brother or a sister or a father or a mother dies, we’re there for them because we can see that death kills more than the person it takes. And yet, the people around us who die a little all the time, moment by moment, who require the least help, the smallest sacrifice, are the ones we ignore completely."

We help people who have a 'visible' tragedy, eg those who lose a loved one, its a sort of public tragedy for instance when it's some form of accident. We are aware of others dying, usually of old age and we don't really give them a second thought because it just must be 'their time to go'.
We are also surrounded by those who are having personal internal tragedies one after another that kills that person metaphorically, but we don't have time for that person because we don't understand.

We tend to look for visible external Injury.
I just love It when we park In the disabled bay at the shops and for a few minutes soak up the looks of scorn and disgust. Then we put Peter's disabled badge In the window. Even then, they continue to look at him trying to spot the disability.
