British astronomer and broadcaster Sir Patrick Moore has died, aged 89.

What a character, not many left like him.

I was saddened to read about this just a few minutes ago. He certainly was a great character.

He certainly inspired a lifelong love of astronomy in me - and I imagine many thousand others.

He was a regular sight at The Herstmonceux Observatory In Sussex. He never seemed to tire of the children asking him all manner of questions and always had time for other visitors there. He lived In Selsey Bill In Sussex.... My company used to accidently cold call him every six months and he was always so polite and patient with our callers.

He was a true gentleman .

This isn't a safe year to make headlines by dying, the tabloids will be offering bounties to anyone prepared to claim he molested them decades ago.

He was a lifetime batchelor.

A minimum of research tells me he lost his fiance due to German action in WW2 and remained single ever since, apparently he was a racist also.
