There are many, but here is one.

People that will not file a legitimate claim on their insurance because they are afraid the premiums will increase. Duh!!!

The obvious----------WHY HAVE THE INSURANCE IN THE FIRST PLACE, BESIDES, FILING A CLAIM DOES NOT MEAN YOUR PREMIUMS WILL INCREASE.

Lon,

your premiums will increase - who needs it.

I can't tell you the damage I receive living on a golf course.

Do I fix them - yes

file a Ins. claim - NO

Auto insurance is mandatory and in that case if the claim is within the range of the deductible why have it recorded? Also, filing a claim may not necessarily mean a permanent increase in the premium but you do end up paying the insurance company back with at least temporary increases.

Homeowners Insurance is similar to auto insurance.

We have a fairly high deductible ($2000) so when a fence blew

over, we paid the $1700 it cost out of pocket. We figured it out though,

and between our no claim discount and the time (5 years) it would

take to get that back if we did file, it was worth it. Our neighbor had

fences on both sides blow over, and with 3 kids in college (although

one has a full ride scholarship) they opted to go ahead and file a claim

rather than paying 1/2 cost of both fences.

Irrespective of any Deductibles on either a Homeowner's or Auto Policy, there are people that will not file any kind of claim because of fear of a premium increase and that is nonsense. You have one rotten insurance carrier if a claim increases your premium and I would switch carriers in a flash. Excessive or abusive claims is one thing, but a routine once in a while claim should not increase your premium.

I filed for all the water damage from the broken pipe, it was my first claim ever. I shall see what I get for repair work.

I don't understand why we can't have diving boards at hotels, swings with long chains at parks, merry go rounds, or monkey bars at schools anymore. Can't we just put up a sign, 'Live at your own risk" ?

Insurance companies are sucking the life out of life.

I had Metropolitan

I also have the "unbrella" package where home auto life and extras within the package.

A storm blew in - knocked down a blockwall fence - alot of damage.

so there's one claim.

@ 6 months later I used my towing thru Met - it was my package.

Metropolitan - put my premium at "high Risk" the amount $ $ was thru the roof.

I couldn't transfer due to the High risk classification.

I no longer have Metropolitan - they may have Snoopy as a slogan -

I have a different slogan for them..

Get Met - get F - - -ed

Do you not have the concept of a no claims bonus in the US?

It's not the Insurance Companies, it's lawyers and excessive litigation.

Probably close to what you mention. However, that just means you won't get a rate increase in the event of an accident, BUT, you may still be "surcharged" for any money the company lays out due to the accident, whether or not you were at fault.

We're at the point over here where the monthly premium one pays does nothing but grant you the right to carry an insurance card. It's legal robbery.

I currently get a 70% discount on my car insurance because I've not claimed for some years, should I claim my payments would more than triple the next year - regardless of who I insure with. That, along with the "you pay the first 'n' hundred pounds of any claim" is a big disincentive against claiming unless you really need to.
