Does that really need to be said? I avoid danger in any form and I sure as hell wouldn't approach a known rapist, serial or otherwise. That's like the warning labels not to use a toaster while you're taking a bath.

On this I totally agree with you - anyone who, on escape, is described as dangerous to the public should never be held in an open prison.

There's also much that doesn't make the national media Bryn.... when I lived In that neck of the woods, It was pretty commonplace for the local police to be looking for prisoners at Ford Open prison that had walked out and not the harmless fraudsters they would have you believe either.

Interesting.... I just found this:
Violent criminals 'escaping from open prisons' - Telegraph
The news comes days after the prison population hit a new all-time record and tens of thousands of prisoners have been released early since last June to free up cells.
A Panorama programme on BBC One tonight claims that “several hundred violent criminals are being held in open prisons, with minimal checks on their movements.
The programme claims that since Labour came to power in 1997, 14,000 criminals have “absconded from open prisons, including many dangerous offenders.

It'd be easy to get in as well, I assume. Say there's an angry family member of a rape victim that wants to take care of a problem...

You're right.... when I lived In West Sussex, Ford Open prison had car boot sales every month ( yard sales ).... Once In, you could move anywhere In that prison and mingle with the In mates.
