I have discovered a great new communication tool!

"Its called talking to each other!"

Here's how it works ... If I or any other member of FG posts something that really really offends you, instead of immediately hitting the "report" button and giving the Mods/Green Room something to debate, why not just PM me or them and say exactly how you feel?

I can't speak for other members, but The Chosen is a very nice guy who really is very approachable. If I have bad mouthed or wronged you or offended you in any way shape or form and you by way of a PM grab me on the throat and say: "Yo Jj you have gone too far!" ... believe me I will apologise to you on the Boards ... no doubt about it. I have done so in the past and I will do so in the future,

Honest guys.

So why not try going this route next time you feel you have to push "report."

This reminds me of when FG first started up. MAN, there was so much drama and flaming. Whole gangs of members went around stalking each other and starting flame wars in threads. It was personal-attack civil war. (Heck, I even fell for it, like the idiot I am, and got banned at one point!):yh_ooooo

I must say that I have found things very peaceable and quiet for some time since then, years even. Hard feelings seem to flare up occasionally no matter what, though. I guess It's just human nature and small group dynamics at work.:yh_eyerol

As for your idea, jones, yes, that would be ideal. I should mention, though,...PMing each other the last time I got mixed up in a flame war was what actually got me banned! The whole PMing thing went sideways and deteriorated faster since it was just two or three of us in the ring....:yh_nailbi

It sounded good on paper...didn't work out so well in reality. The best thing to do, I think, is just to hit the "ignore" button on the offender for a few days or a week, until your frustration and anger wears off, then come back less emotional and more rational.:driving:

JJ - I have tried PMing others - apparently it doesn't work - Saint said the same.

I like the ignore button option - oh, apparently that doesn't work either.?

So, that brings patience - stay rational

Let's imagine someone starts a thread about... oh, I dunno... a well known and respected actor dying.

Someone comes into the thread, makes a few off-topic comments in questionable taste and the thread originator clearly and politely says they don't appreciate the comment.

What's the best course of action, to rethink that your post might possibly be out of line or to immediately snap "get a life!"?

Sigh .... There is something in the FG's TOU use about "trolling" I believe. Go read or would you prefer I hit the "report" button?

I post a thread which is non-confrontational and in my opinion fairly constructive.

And everyone on FG kicks me in the teeth and says the nastiest things about me that they can ... some straight out and the others by innuendo.

Somewhat like a prinanah feeding frenzy ... Guess you all must feel real good and proud of yourselves right now.

I got a PM from JJ before that helped us sort things out. Oscar and I didn't like each other much when I first came back but we sorted that out via PM as well. I also got a really vicious and threatening PM from someone that got him banned once admin read it.

That's about it though, most of the people that I PM with are actually fairly friendly with me.

What's confrontational ?

The way this group works I don't see respect of another's thread coming out of it.

JJ is just trying to help and offered a suggestion.

Wow! it's a fine line we tread I think. I know some people say don't pay any attention to stuff people say to you online because it's not out in the world. Some people don't care what they say to people because it's not out here but I know for a fact that stuff people say to you on places like this can hurt just as badly as if they were standing right in front of you, I know because it has happened to me. I also know that we can be very protective of our thread, I know I am! I remember I put up a thread once about October being breast cancer awareness month, and some guy, (I forget who) came on and made a boob joke. I complained in the mod forum and it was decided that he probably didn't mean anything by it, so I let it go.

It would be great...if it would work but I have seen people's pm's brought into the mod area as evidence against them. I have heard some people say take it to the pm's and don't mess up the open board with disagreements, and just as many people say, don't hid your remarks to people by sneaking around and confronting them in a pm. I guess each situation is different.

I began using the internet in 2005 and in all that time I think I've only made one reference to breasts and that was to Accountable regarding your photo last year. That instance was out of character for me. So, no, I highly doubt AB or Hope is referring to anything I typed.

I went back to my old thread and looked and I guess they did delete it because it isn't there any more. In thinking about it I think it was someone who isn't here anymore....I just can't remember their name!
