Looks like it could be a real raw deal for the parents, assuming their innocence.
This is a chance one takes in taking in children who are emotionally or physically abused or fall within the realm of "mentally handicapped" variations.

Yes it is. I've seen more than one abused kid sabotage a good situation. Sometimes out of anger or spite; sometimes for no real reason at all.
