THE trial of a woman accused of racially abusing passengers on a Croydon tram has been adjourned

Emma West, 35, is charged with two racially aggravated public order offences in relation to an incident on a tram travelling between Croydon and Wimbledon in October 2011.

Why such a delay ?

I suspect the court's waiting for her to be fit to try, which if so is a bit daft given that if they'd just give her a £50 fine and six months probation she'd be out from under the pressure and more able to get on with her life.

She has been subject to psychiatric reports. It's been put back because of new reports

On the surface It may appear just a youtube rant but the whole episode has raised some heated debate In this country regarding the right to Freedom Of Speech. It's become quite political after The Far Right came to her defence after her arrest.

It certainly raises questions. Does she have the right to the Freedom of Speech ? Was she being racist ? Is her arrest ' Malicious Arrest' as The Far Right claim?

Only when Emma has been tried by Jury will we have the answers.

I got it that this incident received way to much attention.

What a blessing it is to live in societies which have so much spare time to be concerned with such nonsense.

Actually it's a lot more subtle than simple racism. If she had said the same things to a bunch of poles - and many (daily mail) are stirring it up about the prospect of eastern europeans coming to the UK. Would that be racsim? Reigious bigotry? most poles are catholic and if you think that isn't an issue look at northern ireland where religion is the main cause of the hatred. Is it only racism if the target of the vitriol happens to be a different colour? Where is the line between legitimate concern and outright simple hatred.

I have since seen various youtube clips of Asian and Black people abusing carraiges of white British passengers. As far as I am aware, only one of those has been arrested. Certainly have not received the same treatment and media outrage as Emma.

We experience double standards in this country. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to point somethings out.

The whole "words hurt" concept is for children. At some point one should just grow up and walk away.

I ought to refer the thread to a strangely biased article in Tuesday's Mirror:The General Dental Council has now ruled that she is a risk to the "safety of her patients" and struck her off.

The entire article is about the tram incident - racism sells papers, presumably. I doubt very much whether the General Dental Council focused entirely on that at all. Stabbing her boyfriend and assaulting a Metropolitan officer seem far more relevant to the safety of her patients.

It saddens me that The General Dental Council continues the Crucifixion of Emma West. She deserves sympathy and support after all she's gone through, not banning from her profession. The trial really should have been an end to it.

As for the Mirror, it's just luxuriating in the repetition of all those juicy foul-mouthed anti-immigration quotes from the viral clip. They presumably sold an extra hundred thousand copies.

The Irony of course, Is that those who sympathise with poor Emma West appeared to celebrate another striking off recently.

The fact remains, she was found guilty. That gives her a criminal conviction and the governing body of dental practice have every right to object to that.

You can not be selective. You can not bend rules simply because you feel sorry for someone.

In her profession, she would have come Into contact with Immigrants. Quite right, given her rant, she should not be In this position.

Adam Walker, the Chairman of the BNP has also been struck off by the Education board and banned for teaching for life. His trial was not as clear cut as the media portrayed and just like my case, the ' children' Involved were not Innocent kids. Regardless, as Adam was a key figure In that nasty BNP he loses his profession despite having an exemplary record In teaching.

The two are similar... Emma West lost It on a train full of Immigrants and Adam lost It after being relentlessly goaded by local scroats.

If you saying that Emma West was ' crucified' and her trial should have been the end of It, then likewise so should Adam Walker's have been.

Let's put it this way, I know which of the two I'd prefer to have dinner with, and it isn't the Chairman of the BNP. Nor that foam-mouthed fanatic Colin Jordan, if he's still alive.

If I had my Muslim Immigrant friends and neighbours at my home, I'd have absolutely no qualms about having Adam Walker along. I would however, not In a million years have Emma West who was clearly racist, foul mouthed, threatening, abusive and clearly a drunk.

In my opinion, based on media reports, Emma West was unwell. The Chairman of the BNP is, by contrast, unsavoury, while Colin Jordan was clearly unhinged.

When Emma was first arrested, the BNP offered their support. However, after getting to know her rather better than you do, she was deemed a liability and dropped like a red brick.

Adam Walker on the other hand, I have found to be utterly charming and a gentleman.

Adam Walker was born In 1970. He would have been 5 years old when Colin Jordan ended his leadership of the British Movement. Your connection Is way off.

That reminds me of an episode of QI, where the subject of a new Pope's indoctrination came up, where he is lifted up high on his seat while the Cardinals 'check his undercarriage' before making the statement 'They are hanging well'. Apparently this is due some time back in Ancient History when a woman, acting as a man was able to become Pope & ever since then they've made it part of the procedure to run a sex check.

No more than the other. It makes no difference what colour the person concerned is, or who the tirade is directed at. It's simply not acceptable.
